It has, and will always be, MUTUAL SELECTION.

So are you just talking about the spongy style flip flops, like toe goz, and rainbows and reefs?
My daughter's friend just bought an adorable pair of black flip flop style dressy sandals--they're leather, they have a small heel and look cute with a sundress. Would you consider something like this "flip flops" or "sandals"?
The only time my daughter wore flip flops with a dress was on bid night when they run for the roses. If you don't get to the front, you might not get a rose, so you don't want heels slowing you down!

what is "running for the roses" ???
I hope that's not chasing after a man with a rose. I never chase a man anywhere. He either brings the roses to me (preferably white!) or he sleeps on the couch.

I think it really depends on the campus. At my school, everyone wears Rainbows almost year round: rain, shine, hot, or cold. My chapter is even wearing them for a couple of recuritment rounds. So, it's definitely not uncommon to see them worn here with sundresses and skirts, people even go out to bars and clubs in them. That said, for dressier rounds of recruitment, I walked from house-to-house in flipflops and then changed into heels there. Then again, there's always the option of wearing a "dressy" flipflop.

After dinner on bid day, the girls run from fraternity to fraternity singing their newly learned sorority songs to the new fraternity pledges; the pledges then sing back and give the girls roses. But...since most of the fraternity pledge classes are smaller than the sorority pledge classes, sometimes there are not enough roses to go around, so getting in the front of the pack will get you a rose at every house. They end up with HUGE bouquets of all different colors of roses.

That's very cute. Although I'm inclined to agree with bejazd. The boys should be coming to YOU...not the other way around (and should bring enough roses for the whole class).

Not sure why they do it that way. The do go off campus for bid day festivities, so I really don't know if all the sororities do it at the same time, or they just start doing it whenever they get back to campus.
Details become scarce once they go away to college.

Sounds like fun, but do they still do this "after dinner on bid day"? I'm just asking because of the NPC unanimous agreement about not involving men in any bid day activities. Maybe the "bid day" technically ends with the dinner or something?

From my memories from my time on IFC, it's my understanding that bid day ends at 4:00 or so that day, at least on my campus. Any running around and singing is unofficial, and not part of bid day activities.
