My husband has done the official "polar bear plunge" with law enforcement of nj for the special olympics. Up here it runs in late february, and the air and water are generally about 30-40*. Not fun. What they have to do, though, is collect cash (or check) donations. No timing - just $$$! It's probably a physical danger to stay in cold water that long. They people who do it up here (last year over 3,000 people plunged!) run in and get out! that may be a better way to go for you. And as a chapter, you can send out letters to alumni asking for donations and tell them when the event is - they may want to come watch!!!

Maybe not in OK, but up in my hometown, Peoria, IL it's disgusting. I was always waiting to see a three eyed fish jump up on the shore while eating at riverside restaurants.
