People who have been here for a long time, like Sandy and I, remember when GC WAS happy pony rainbow land. There was nothing but positive encouragement offered, no matter the PNM's particular situation. Then those PNMs came back devastated because they didn't get bids. We learned our lesson. I used to say "junior? LSU? 2.0? Go for it!" I would NEVER say that now, not without a disclaimer.

If you went on collegeconfidential or other college entrance info type MBs and said "Hey! I have a 1.9 and have never been in any extracurricular activities, and I want to go to Harvard!" people would tell you very quickly that your chances were practically nil. That doesn't mean you would never go to college because all those people in college are so mean.

I'm some what confused on this If I'm answering this question with complete misunderstanding to what you typed, I apologize in advance. I guess I'm not sure which your implying, that I am not considering Greek because of this thread, or that I'm not going to college because of this thread. Either way, its a wrong assumption. I never asked for it to be constant encouragment, but I did ask for advice on a specific question, not opinions about my life. I'm still going to college.. I don't know if I'm still going to rush because I was never sure if I wanted to in the first place. I was seeking out more information on it, and thats all. I don't recall coming onto GC with "OMG I SO WANT TO BE A SORORITY GIRL!!! I JUST HAVE TO GET IN!! ITS MY WHOLE LIFE!!!" I completely agree you should be honest on here, don't sugar coat things, but there is a line between giving truthful advice and opinions on whats been asked, and giving negative opinions about a persons life and expecting them to be happy about it. It works both ways. You don't give me "happy pony rainbow land" advice because its wrong and ends up hurting people in the end, I respect and agree with that. I don't give "happy pony rainbow land" kiss ass answers back because its wrong. I'll never answer something that makes me angry or upset with "Wow, like, thank you sooo much for your hurtful comments! Like, you are so smart *twirls hair* " It's not me and its fake and people who do it are sucking up to you.

Yeah, you completely misread my post.

To summarize:

If you ask us, we will tell you. Some people more directly than others. If you give us information, we will assume you don't mind an analysis of it.

I'm guessing that the thing that upset you was people pointing out that while tough semesters and financial problems do happen to everyone, some of the things that happened to you seemed within your control.

There was a poster on here a while back who rejected a sorority for what seemed really lame reasons and I called her on it - once she clarified a little, it made more sense. But you have to realize all anyone has to go on is words on the screen. There's a difference between (example) "I transferred 4 times" and "I transferred 4 times because my father went into bankruptcy and I had to be living with him for him to get benefits and he moved from place to place to find jobs" or whatever.

If you can't take the scrutiny of posters on a MB, rush might be a very upsetting experience for you. Sororities ARE going to look at things like transferring multiple times.

Theres no problem with them looking into it, theres no problem with them asking about it. But as you've just said, they are going off of words on the screen. Making assumptions about a persons charactor or integrity based on a few words in a thread is rediculous. And you won't find any person with a brain who would take it with a smile. There are contributing factors to why I changed schools that I will not ever put on GC. They are personal and no one here needs to know them, if it comes down to it in recruitment (if I decide to do it) then I'd talk about it. There is no need to post every single bit of information about me on this site in order to ask a GPA question.

~Ok I just posted this and re read it and forgot to say thanks for clearing up the confusion about your post ~
