Wow is all I gotta say for them.

Sigma Gamma Lambda has (well I counted 83, their site claims 88) chapters and 11 colonies. That is truly impressive.

From the pictures of the sisters on the site you can tell that they truly are diverse.

I wonder if they will apply for NPC membership?

Question: I know people have said that these sororities tend to not want to join NPC because of the NPC expansion rules, but aren't there perks to joining NPC that they don't have as being a "local"? (I put that in quotation marks because I'm not sure how different schools would look at them. Some schools might put them with the Panhellenic council but others might not because they aren't NPC).

They are associate members of my schools panhellenic council, but the chapter here is so small they almost never come to meetings.

They have their own meetings during the same time as PC meetings and they don't have a girl to spare to drop by unfortunately.

I don't think they will apply for membership mainly for the expansion policies that NPC has and they are likely associate Panhellenic members on most campuses if they affiliate w/ the NPC at all.

Regarding ASUSADPi's question - weren't there some NPC sororities that ended up getting absorbed by other NPC sororities (a super long time ago at least).

Yes, there's a whole thread about it somewhere.

I think that number of chapters is meaningless if their chapters are not as large as the NPC groups on the campuses where they have chapters. I believe the chapter at my alma mater was smaller than the NPC groups by design, and would not have fit into the quota/total system at all, though they were an associate member of the CPH.

Seeing how Sigma Lambda Gamma is a member of NALFO, I would say no.

Briana - Kappa Beta Gamma used to be a member of NPC but their number of chapters dropped to the point that they had to drop out. They were Catholic based when they were founded but like TPA, they now accept women of all faiths. They are trying to re-enter the NPC.

Are you sure Kappa Beta Gamma was actually a member of NPC? While I've heard this before, I have never heard any references to specific dates for them entering or leaving NPC.

Sheila knows all.

I just looked at their National website, and it could use some help. It refers to their sisters as Alumni, instead of Alumnae and says that they would like to become Pan-Hellenic (which I would assume, if I didn't know different to be NPHC) affiliated, instead of National Panhellenic (as in NPC).

I either have the information at home in a book or it's online here on the site, 'cause I know it's been discussed before.

I actually have no record of us being involved with NPC, so I would be thrilled to find out truth behind this. If anyone really does have records of our membership it would be greatly appreciated. However, as far as I and everyone else that has been involved with nationals since probably 1994 knows, we were never NPC.

We've actually been having problems with NPC over the past year, in that we have been treated like a local from the standpoint of regional panhell and national once it came straight down to it. Loyola Chicago allowed "expansion" this past semester and gave permission to NPC to take over one of our chapters. Because we weren't NPC, we were not treated with the respect a national organization deserves by the school's Panhell advisor (who is out next year, thank god), nor NPC nationally. This kind of leaves us in an ugly situation with NOT wanting to be NPC because of the lack of respect we've recieved from them, yet WANTING to be NPC because we would have way less fights with administrations when it comes to expansion, or even situations such as that at Loyola. We would have quite a way to go yet though before becoming NPC would even be an option again.

And yes, I know our website needs major updating. I should have it fixed fairly soon.

BootyKBG -

I"ll try and find the information this weekend and post it for you. I *think* it may be in the Sorority Handbook by Ida Shaw Martin or in my 1930's Bairds.

I know a few girls from a chapter that would NOT be happy about becoming NPC.
