The whole amendment is in regards to receiving funds from SGA. What we've noticed on our campus, is that the greek community, as a whole...um, isn't really whole. We're trying to get there, but it's not there yet.

The greek advisor, who also sits on the SGA advisory panel, wants to add this amendment to the process for what organizations must do in order to receive funds from SGA out of the student activities account. At first, when I heard the idea, it felt kinda - nazi-ish to me, but, it makes sense. We have too many greek organizations doing "their own thing" and refusing to cooperate with IGC in an effort to build a stronger campus greek community. So....with the greek advisor suggestion, and approval from the already active groups of IGC, we are suggesting the following (still tweaking the wording a little bit):

2.5 Social Greek Letter Organizations (GLO) must be actively involved in the SPSU Greek governing council, (currently the Inter-Greek Council, or IGC). In order to receive funds from SGA, Social GLOs must have representatives that regularly attend IGC meetings, and must participate in campus-wide IGC events. When submitting Fiscal Year budget requests, or additional funds requests, Social GLOs must have a letter from IGC signed by either the IGC president, or the IGC advisor, confirming that the organization is an actively participating member of IGC. A letter from IGC is required for each and every budget or additional funds request that a Social GLO submits. Social GLOs that are not actively participating in IGC are not contributing to the growth of the relationship within the SPSU Greek Community, and therefore will not receive funds from SPSU SGA.

2.5.1 (definition of Social GLO, as listed above)

I like your suggestion, because it's thorough, and I want it to be all inclusive of future organizations that come on campus. Right now, we have 2 NPCs, 2 NPHCs, 4 NICs, Kappa Sig (which last I knew was no longer part of NIC, but I dont remember) and a local fraternity. We dont have any of the first 4 you listed, but I want it to be written that if one ever does come to campus, that they will have to follow this as well.

so basically - if a social GLO wants money from SGA - they gotta participate in IGC, and IGC has to verify that they participate, which is the whole point of the signed letter.

Is there anything in your IGC about "good standing"? I remember in NJIT's IFSC, that if an organization wasn't on good standing they were not allowed to vote and some other things.

If there is something defining good standing you may want to add that to your ammendment. "GLO's eligible must be on good standing with XYZ University's IGC according to the IGC constitution and etc...."

I think it's awesome that your school is giving funding to social GLO's. my chapter's school doesn't do that. But we always went around it by co-sponsoring events with clubs and organizations like RHA and Senate to get funding for things like BBQ's and larger events.

Correct. Kappa Sigma is no longer a member of NIC. They are a founding member of the The Fraternity Leadership Association (FLA) which is why I included the FLA in my list. I believe currently there are nine members of the FLA. I've also noticed that many campuses are now listing FLA as part on their Greek Life site. And FYI: as far as I know, Phi Delta Theta is still the only former NIC social/general fraternity that has no affiliation with any sort of national council.
