I'm sorry, but again, I think that is one of the more "silly" things to me.

"assist" me in putting my coat on? What am I , 5? I'm perfectly capable of putting my coat on by myself, along with finding and sitting in my own seat.

It's not about what you are capable of; it's about serving you in a way that shows caring.

No one thinks you NEED that kind of assistance.

The chair thing always makes me feel awkward, but it's my problem not the guy's.

See, my way of caring is cooking for the boy. His way of caring is eating everything, telling me he loved it and doing the dishes. He can help me with my coat when I break my arm

Amen. Goodness knows that I don't mind being treated special.

Exactly. It's about teaching your kids, male or female, to think of other people before they think of themselves.

This reminds me of Blast From The Past, the cute movie with Brendan Fraser, Alicia Silverstone, Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek. Brendan Fraser's character quotes his mother: "Manners are a way of showing other people we care about them."

(Thanks to IMDB)

Really? I've never seen it, but with your recommendations perhaps it's worth putting in the Netflix queue.
