Keith Robinson (you might remember him from Half & Half, he was little Dee Dee's boyfriend Neil or from Fat Albert). Anyway, I loved him too, I've been a big fan since seeing him on H&H. It was quite a surprise - but a good one - to see him in the movie holding his own singing with the others.

I agree the storyline did seem a bit rushed. Especially the ending, I wish we could've found out what happened when Curtis realized Magic was his child.

I wish I could rewind back to 1982 when I could have seen this on Broadway. If Jennifer Holiday was anything (probably better or more intense) than Jennifer Hudson's performance, I would need a whole box of Kleenex.
I know this isn't the same thing as seeing it live and in person, but here's Jennifer Holiday's rendition at the 1982 Tony Awards.

I knew Ci Ci looked familiar. I just couldn't figure out where I knew him from.

Just came from seeing it! FABBBBBBBBULOUS!!!!!!!!!! OMG I just loved it.

Eddie Murphy's character was said to be a hodgepodge of Marvin Gaye (hat scene, the Patience song) and 2 other male singers but the names escape me.

Jennifer Hudson is about to BLOW UP!!!!!!!!!!!

agreeing with everything above.

saw it last nite. JHud was amazing, Beyonce was dead. and our theatre was a hot mess, hooting and hollering like it was church Sunday, and then when Beyonce did "Listen," she got the pity applause. me and my friends were seriously on some "black folx in the movie theatre" mess, screaming, "dont clap for that!" i dont even like that song, so she definitely wasnt getting props from me!

and yes, i could not take eddie seriously either, we kept singing "party all the time" everytime he came on the screen. jamie did a decent job in his role, especially when he got real Ike on Beyonce's character.

i felt a couple of parallels. that one scene, where he's telling her how her voice has no character and how no one knows her in her voice... man i was like, beyonce you gon have to step your game UP cause JHud is about to get it ON! also, the same way B's character was used to sell the group in the movie is the same way she was used to sell the movie. at the end of the movie, ANYONE couldve played her role.

lastly, i thought the baby story was extraneous and the ending a little too clean, like it all wrapped up nicely. it kinda fell flat and it didnt matter how it ended.

Just finished seeing it. WONDERFUL MOVIE!!!!

B--She was pretty good, but I agree with everyone that her role was less that it was made out to be. I liked when she sang Listen

Jennifer: OMG. That girl tore them songs up, down, around and sideways. Besides AIATY, I really liked I Am Changing and One Night Only.

Eddie: ROTFLMAO!!!! Especially with the Miami club scene and the anniversary show. At one point I thought he was going to sing Hot Tub. And one more thing: SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!!!

For some reason when I saw Curtis, I kept seeing Jamie with a bad wig.
And Effie's brother was hot!!!!

This will be a part of the DVD collection when it comes out.

I absolutely LOVED this movie. Jennifer Hudson was a amazing. Her voice gives me chills. She truly upstage Beyonce. However, Beyonce to' up that last song when she was singing in the booth. Overall the movie was great but the people in the movie theater made it even better. Folks screamed and shouted when Jennifer Hudson saaanged!

Definitely getting the soundtrack and the movie when it comes out on DVD!

I didn't know that Loretta Devine was in the original. She made an appearance in the movie as well. Cool

Before seeing that Youtube clip, I didn't know that either. Sheryl Lee Ralph was the original Deena, Loretta was Lorelle, and Jennifer Holliday was Effie. I wonder why the producers didn't include Sheryl and Jennifer, even in some small way.

They consulted with Sheryl about different aspects of the movie. I remember Sheryl throwing serious salt because she said that all of the original cast were brown to dark skin and casting Bey was some type of insult because it buys into the whole light skinned black women are prettier that darker skinned black women.

I think they completely disssed JHoliday and didnt include her in on anything. I think I read somewhere recently that she has said as much. I have come to the conclusion that JHoliday must be blacklisted for something she has done or said.

These thoughts also ran through my mind...
