Jennifer Hudson's voice gave me goose bumps. I think that Beyonce's solo song was supposed to have the same effect, but it fell short.

Me too!!! I agree, and ditto to everything else! Well, just about everything...
I loved it!
*singing*
"...round, and around!"
"Jimmy got soul! Jimmy got soul! Jimmy got S-O-U-L, SOOUUULLL!!!"
"Lisssteeennnn..."

Does anybody know why they didn't use Jennifer Holiday's song "Givin' Up", from the original soundtrack also sung by Donnie Hathaway? That song is FIERCE! Maybe on the same level as "And I am Telling You."

One more thing...wasn't it interesting to see the comparison of Dreamgirls with Destiny's Child? And LeToya (Effie) making a come back?

Yes, especially since the new girl's name was Michelle.

Saw it last night. Really liked it. Theater was packed at every single showing.

But not because of Beyonce. She had some REALLY cute outfits (especially the black one with the hat) and her body slimmer and excessive makeup were doing her well. But she can't act, I'm REALLY realizing that she can't sing all that well, and I saw her role as art imitating life. Foxx told her that he chose her to sing lead because her voice has no depth or soul--TIS TRUE!! I always thought she was a talented woman for her writing, singing and producing--she still is--but considering there's debate as to whether she's as young as she claims, her skills are average at best.

Oh yeah and I got tired at one point and wanted the movie to end. Around the time Beyonce's character was supposed to be "finding herself." LOL. Just find J. Hudson for us and let us go home. The folks in the theater clapped numerous times throughout the movie for J. Hudson and even cheered at the end when it said "introducing."

I liked the other Dreamgirl's character, Foxx, and Murphy also.

That movie was GREAT! The best part was that Beyonce didn't say more than 20 words through the whole thing. Jennifer Hudson tore the house down. the old white couple next to me were clapping after she sang AIATY- can you think of higher praise, lol.

After seeing Jennifer Holliday's version of the song at the 82 tony awards I honestly can't choose between the two....

I absolutely LOVED this movie. My hubby hates musicals and he even loved the movie! Jennifer Hudson is absolutely amazing. I never watched American Idol so this was my first time hearing her sing and it was phenomenal. My husband said her singing gave him goosebumps and he's never said that about ANYONE'S singing (not even mine..lol). Anyway this DVD is definitely something I would add to my collection. I can't wait until they win some awards.

I actually like J. Holliday's version of AIATY better. J. Hudson is a very close second though. I also heard J. Holliday sing "I Am Changing". I like J. Hudson better on that song.

I truly enjoyed the movie. It was well done. I am glad that it didn't focus soley on B. Just a question I know the movie is based on the broadway hit, but I don't think it was a requirement for them to consult the cast from the play or is it? Who's to say that women with darker complexions didn't tryout for the role of Deena and B just happened to be the best choice (regardless of her skin complexion).
