Do you think she really cares? The girl has pictures of her in NPHC letters, stepping, etc. for all of the world including her SDT sisters to see. If she really cared, she would've been more, ahem, discreet about it.

That's a good point, but if it were possible, I would hope that nationals would do SOMETHING about it (if she were still officially a member) just for the interest of my org and the idea of a lifetime member and all that.
I understand she probably wouldn't care either way though.

Not completely sure, but I do believe it has been mentioned on GC that at least 1 NPHC sorority does not allow dual membership.

If SDT doesn't have a rule against it (only within the NPC does the NPC have such a rule) then I don't know why it's a bad thing from SDT's standpoint. If it was Gamma Sigma Sigma instead would that be different?

If she joined a service org, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But another social org I do. I also doubt she was honest about her affiliation with SDT.

I guess I just don't see an issue with it. It's like my mom joining P.E.O.
Would you feel the same if it was Beta Sigma Phi? (Pi?)
Although if she lied about SDT, not cool.

I don't know if it's against the rules, but I would notify national. To me, once you're initiated to a sorority you're supposed to be totally loyal. If you transfer and you don't have a chapter to affiliate with, then you should just join a service organization or honor society or something to occupy your time, but not divide loyalties, ya know?

She never transfered. Our chapter was closed, and then..well it was done the semester that our chapter was closed (we were closed the first week or so of the semester) she went ahead and joined XYZ. I am pretty sure it's a city wide chapter, as the school doesn't have XYZ, so she could have gotten away without mentioning she was an SDT.

NPHC are not service organizations per se....they are social organization there are heavily involved with community/service projects.
It is highly insulting to me (and I am not even a NPHC member) to liken the NPHC organizations to Beta Sigma Phi and PEO or the like. I am not saying anything bad against Beta Sigma Phi or PEO, because they serve a purpose, just like each and every social organization (be it Greek letter or no) that we mostly discuss here on GC.
The reason I say the above is that you can hold dual membership (considered not a conflict of membership or frowned upon) to be a member of NPC/NPHC organization and a member of GSS, BSP, PEO, etc....

Thank you. Not only do I feel the same way, I have looked into both BSP and OPhiA for myself, as they are two different things.

I'm not really comparing NPHC to other groups, just saying that she is probably as active in SDT as many other alums and that her NPHC membership probably doesn't infringe on that.

for AKA, a woman cannot try for membership if she is/was a member of an NPC/NPHC sorority or a another sorority similar in scope. a former member of an NPC sorority tried to join ours. she was honest that she was a former member and we honestly turned her down
as for doing background checks, no, we don't. however, if someone tries to get around this and is caught, it's not pretty.
i do believe other NPHC sororities are the same as us.
i swear that Facebook will trip up a bunch of folks ...i wonder what org. this woman is in...

Sigma Gamma Rho has the same policy. And I'm curious as to what organization this young lady joined as well.

Buttonz, it would be un-panhellenic if you didn't tell us which org the hussy joined.

I bet it has a Greek letter ending in "A."
