Dual Memberships

Do NPHC's do background checks to make sure that the girls who are joining don't hold membership in an NPC?
I just found out that one of my sisters joined an NPHC through Facebook. She has pictures up of her with her new sisters, everything.

Jeez...is she at your school?

Does she have SDT mentioned anywhere in her facebook profile?

I joined SDT at the school that I started out in, and she was one of my chapter sisters.

I could be way off base, but I don't think that it's against rules for members to hold membership in NPC and NPHC orgs... Could be comepletely wrong and I probably am.

Not technically but it tends to be frowned upon, particularly within the NPHC groups. This doesn't mean it never happens or is universally frowned upon or anything though. The question would be, was she honest about her affiliation with SDT? And that is an issue for her and her sisters/sorors. (Of course this is a message board so it's never our business anyway;))

Even if her NPHC org doesn't care, you could still inform SDT nationals of her dishonesty, I'd be pissed if I were you.

I don't know about SDT, but there's not really rules about it on the NPC side...

Paging an NPHC sorority member.

Question, did this women officially end her membership at any point with SDT?

Do you think she really cares? The girl has pictures of her in NPHC letters, stepping, etc. for all of the world including her SDT sisters to see. If she really cared, she would've been more, ahem, discreet about it.

As far as I am aware, when my chapter was closed, she went alum, as the option was given, and taken by all the sisters who was active at that time. I am going to try to double check that one, but that is as far as I know.

That's a good point, but if it were possible, I would hope that nationals would do SOMETHING about it (if she were still officially a member) just for the interest of my org and the idea of a lifetime member and all that.

I understand she probably wouldn't care either way though.

Not completely sure, but I do believe it has been mentioned on GC that at least 1 NPHC sorority does not allow dual membership.

If SDT doesn't have a rule against it (only within the NPC does the NPC have such a rule) then I don't know why it's a bad thing from SDT's standpoint. If it was Gamma Sigma Sigma instead would that be different?
