Nearly ever work written on early "gangster" culture in America begins with the lives and crimes of Italian, Irish, and even Jewish Americans. And though this may be politically incorrect, for many, “Italian-American” still brings to mind white men in Adidas track suits, gold chains, and leather sneakers.

The first Gangsters were wearing three piece suits and fedoras....not Adidas Track Suits and gold chains.

If you want to give someone credit for popularizing those types of clothing.....I would start by looking at Run DMC.

Sadly, these early rappers glorified and popularized this aspect of Italian-American culture. The gold chains got bigger, the pants baggier.

No, they didn't. Show me where popular urban/black clothing styles originated from early Italian Americans.
