It was a beautiful sunny snow day here...with about a foot of snow in the driveway left from the deluge that ended at dawn. My husband was a conference and I told him he needed to get the mail and the snowblower out when he got home, because we were literally trapped. My dog loves the snow. We've made trenches for him in the backyard and he likes to run through them.

I just can't see anyone in Michigan naming a snowstorm with a human name. Not going to happen. And I did live through the Blizzard of 78...we had to dig a cave in front of the front door to let our dog out.

Haha, you and everyone else!

My cousin's wife just sent me a pic of her back deck in Coventry, RI. Already over a foot of snow, and they still have so much more to go.. blizzard conditions until 5am, and snow all day tomorrow. Crazy.

Same here in NE Ohio. However, someone did make the comment that we do in fact name storms that drop 2+ feet of snow: WINTER.

I was born in 1983 so I wasn't around to see that on the news, but I saw the Blizzard of 78' on the History Channel a couple of years ago, and I thought it just hit New York. It got Michigan, too?

Absolutely. But we didn't name it then, either. Schools were closed for a week. I had a big school project due on the first snow day, which I was staying up late to finish. We were so sure it was going to be a snow day, I asked my mom if I could go to bed. She said I'd better get it done, just in case. It was very bad...the roads were closed for a few days, and some people died because ambulances couldn't get to them. We did not lose power, though. My father-in-law took his snowmobile to Meijer to get food. There were employees who were stuck there and they remained open.

Looks like the Great Lakes storm of 78 and the one that hit New York were two separate storms, two weeks apart. That, I didn't know! I always thought the Blizzard of 78 was one big storm.

I was a High School Freshman living in D.C. when that storm came through. Shut D.C. down and we missed a whole week of school including our fall/winter exams!

I wouldn't mind missing a week of school, though. I used to love school closings when I was in high school, although we rarely got them.

It was great having an extra week to study. Talked with my school buddies for hours on the phone every day. Made all kinds of things out of snow. Still living in DC we were used to hustle and bustle and the stillness felt almost apocalyptic.

So far this year, we've gotten more snow than normal. I mean, that's what they said on the news.

I remember the Blizzard of 78. My brother built a massive snow fort. It was very cool. We had to shovel a path for the dog too.

Apparently, there was a big snow storm on the day my mom was due to have me. I was two weeks late and she was thankful. One of my best friends was born during that storm and they sent a tank from the tank arsenal in my home town to take her mom to the hospital. Can you imagine? In labor and going to the hospital in a tank because that was the only vehicle that could get through?
