TV show greek is the greek system more like it

I am going start going to University next week and I am interested in the Greek system. I was wondering is the Greek system more or less like what they show on that tv show Greek. Because I want to join the Greek system to make some good friends, network and have fun. I want join a house simlar to Omega Chi Delta from the show. Rather then a house that drinks and party's all the time.

I was also wondering would a house like Omega Chi Delta be considered a "jock fraternity".

Greek Life is not like the TV show.

It was only a matter of time before newbies started comparing the show to greek life IRC.

I'm still waiting for a MCG storyline. Or something.

I mean, the show GREEK has alot to do with Greek life. And there are alot of parallels.

But we don't have such clear stereotypes, perhaps because my system was bigger.

University of Central Arkansas has fairly clear stereotypes that mirror Greek alot.

By the way: Omega Chi is not the jock fraternity at Cyprus-Rhodes, Lambda Sig is if you know your GREEK. They got every all-state athlete except for beaver last year.

Obviously the OP is not American. So they kind of get a pass.

But - Greek life is as much like Greek as working at a hospital is like Gray's Anatomy.

Love it.

To the OP: it's a highly stylized view of what greek life is like at some schools. At other schools (SEC, small colleges, etc) it is barely relevant.

In real life Omega Chi would party pretty hard too.

The way rush works in the show, and pledging, is very different from 99% of the fraternities out there. Pledging would be shorter than a year (!) and sometimes much more intense and sometimes much less...depends on the college and specific chapter. At most schools fraternities have an unstructured rush meaning you pick what fraternities you want to rush instead of visiting them all in groups like Rusty did.

Take it with a grain (or a tablespoon) of salt.

Haha, it's true. I'm a big fan of Greek. I own the first season somewhere.

Everyone knows Greek is not real because Panhellenic let IKI in and that would not happen. Other than that, the show is 100% legitimate.

Does your school really do recruitment the same way?

mation, the tv show "greek" is just that-a tv show. it is a representation of fraternities and sororities, it is not exactly how they are. if anything, it takes some aspects of actual greek life and highly exaggerates it. it is no more real than aliens on the star trek movies. it is just entertainment.

your best bet will be to go thru recruitment yourself, meet the guys in the actual fraternities, find out what they do, how much it costs and make a decision then.

I don't really know how fraternity recruitment went at my school. They were less than organized. But- I was being sarcastic.
