I'm not a student at Wayne State but I've worked with our sorority chapter there for over 15 years and I can see Wayne State from my office. There are NO sorority houses at Wayne State. It's an urban, commuter campus and there are no sorority houses. It's a really unique situation because sisters can live 50-60 miles away from each other and all be in the same chapter at the same school. For this reason, Greek Life really helps students feel like they are part of the University. It is very easy at a school like this to just go to class and go home and hang out with all your friends from high school who didn't go away to school either. Getting involved really helps you feel like your University is your home at a commuter school.
All that said, there are not tons of wild parties. Most everybody is going home to their parents' house every night.
There are 4 NPC chapters at Wayne and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Formal recruitment is in the fall. Go to it, meet the women and see where you feel most comfortable. That's your best plan

Good luck!
ETA: Last I knew, dues were much cheaper than $300 a semester.. more around $200, but it has been a couple years since I worked directly with those women.
