White Fashion, should be the title. Sorry.

Where did you learn the "no white below the waist" rule? I'm really curious about sources for the rule.

I don't want to wear white all year or anything, but I was brought up with no white SHOES after Labor Day and before Easter.

When I was in college, I knew people who didn't think you should wear white dresses or all white after Labor Day. (Weirdly, during rush, I wore a white dress, but I didn't wear white shoes with it. And I thought I was being traditional. Doesn't that seem bizarro? I don't even own white shoes now. White leather just doesn't look good to me.)

and your rule says no white below the waist. (One of my friends takes this further and says White Jeans Equals White Trash, no matter what time of year.)

Where are such rules officially recorded? Are there regional guides? (My mom who taught me the no white shoes rule is from New Mexico.)

I also remember reading a story about one member of the British Royal Family catching a lot of grief because she appeared in white shoes after Labor Day. The official response was that they didn't have that rule in England.

So lets compare, if the highjack is okay. Where are you? What rule did you learn? Who was the authority for the rule?

(I live in Georgia. You can have days in the high 80s in October and it's HOT way before Memorial Day.)
