1 Killed in Shootings at Virginia Tech

This is from our school paper. I thought it was very well written and wanted to share it with all of you:

Pullman's condulences go out to the victims and their families.

It’s not hard to imagine how Monday started out for Virginia Tech students. It wasn’t much different from any of ours. In a description strikingly similar to the community of Pullman, one VT student described the campus as being located in the “little town of Blacksburg.” The shock that reverberated throughout the country from the horrific scene did not take long to reach WSU, jarring professors and administrators who have spent time at VT. The connections between the schools made the news all the more unbearable. Maybe that is why, as we watched the terrifying news of the campus shootings unfold there, we felt extreme sadness and a strong kinship with the victims, and everyone left behind to deal with the tragedy. Things like this should not happen in towns like Blacksburg and Pullman. But this did not stop a sense of insecurity and uneasiness from creeping into our minds as the details of the attacks emerged. Even worse, the students, faculty and staff of VT will have to live with the terror for the rest of their lives. The Evergreen Editorial Board has written several times about the value of the time we feel the college experience embodies. Now, for the entire Virginia Tech student body, much of that precious time and fond memories are lost, marred by the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Looking ahead, Hokies, take solace in healing power of the wonderful bond being a part of a proud university can create. Amid the unfair realities and grief, remember the countless times you came together to chant the fight song in celebration of another victory. Don’t forget the brilliant feeling that comes with wearing orange and red, the Hokiebird across your chest. Know that today, every Cougar wishes he or she could in some way erase the geographical distance that separates the schools and shoulder some of your sorrow. It is our hope that Pullman’s sincerest thoughts of condolence and sympathy will hurry back to the community mourning in Blacksburg, giving them strength and support to help them make it through this ordeal.
