Yes, i exist and I'm Greek!
holy crap, you all are really riled up about my movie! i just found Greek Chat yesterday and posted a note in the AGD section encouraging them to go, and then today stumbled upon this thread...
first off, yes i am an Alpha Gam from JMU, graduated in 1988. They yanked the charter at my school two years after I graduated because we had low membership (hmm, sounds like the plot of a movie...) and i wrote the powers-that-be a pretty nasty letter after that, so i'm probably not their favorite alum. But since i don't have a sorority house to go back to when i visit my school, i think you can understand why i got angry.
my Myspace account says i'm 39 despite the fact that i'm 41 because i signed up when i was 39 and never changed it because i don't go on myspace that often as i'm old and it confuses me... i like Facebook better.
as for the poster in post #87 saying this movie is based on her school and chapter -- nothing could be further from the truth. I have no idea who you are, what school you go to and i've never heard of your chapter, so let's stop that rumor right now. It's silly.
as has been pointed out, Greek letters are not copyrighted, but sorority names are, which is why you never see a real sorority name in a movie. In Legally Blonde, Elle was in Delta Nu, which does not exist.
when i'm writing the script, yes, i use real Greek names because they are easier to keep track of than the fake ones and because i don't have time to research which ones are fake and which ones aren't -- that's the legal department's job. So who picked the names you see onscreen in The House Bunny? The Sony legal department. And they're all fake. Who picked the colors used on the houses? The production designer. It's not a conspiracy people. There are only so many combinations of Greek letters that are not real organizations.
i saw about a million posts complaining about the movie before it came out, but not as many afterwards, so i hope some of you enjoyed it. I loved Greek life, (and yes, I was a little sister at Alpha Chi Rho), and had several of my sorority sisters and a few AXPs out here to visit for my opening night party. I don't think this movie makes fun of Greeks in any way and neither do my Greek friends.
i hope the rest of you go see it and enjoy it and realize it's just a comedy!
Ps. I did not write the boob punching stuff, that was added by some guys.
