question on depledging
I have a question my friend is a freshmen and pledge a local panhellenic soriority but realize the sorority wasn't what she thought it was, and depledge right after!
She was wondering could a another organization ever consider her to pledge for them especially a latina organization??

There are no set rules about going from NPC to NALFO (especially since initiation didn't take place). "Your friend" needs to ask a member of the NALFO sorority and they'll tell her what their specific policies are.

Agreed.
I would add that this friend should wait a while and establish herself on campus first before trying to hop over to another sorority (especially since she is a freshman).
Edited to add:
Okay...hold on. I found this post in another forum:

How did she become a member of this organization, and then DE-PLEDGE THREE MONTHS after being an active member?
I hope this isn't you, but I think it is.

^^^ I saw that post earlier too. I'm thinking she meant to say 3 months after accepting the bid, not actually crossing. We'll see..

If it's a Panhellenic (NPC) sorority she would have been initiated by 3 months unless she didn't make grades. Even then, I'm not aware of many groups anymore that wait for grades before initiation.

Mmm hmm. I'm reading this as, the "friend" (who I strongly suspect is the OP herself) terminated her membership three months after accepting her bid - and at some point during those three months, she crossed. Which means she didn't depledge, she disaffiliated.
I don't know if there are any rules preventing her from pursuing membership in another sorority, but she should be prepared for some questions as to why she left the other org.
Also, if the "friend" and the OP are actually two separate people, why isn't the "friend" here on GC herself? Why isn't she doing her own research?

I have to agree with aephi. On occasion, people do have a friend with an interesting story, me included. But I have never had a friend ask me to ask a question for them. Something smells fishy, and I think we know what it is. Kinda like when you get caught with something you are not suppossed to have and you were "just holding it for a friend"...
And to the OP, I would tell your "friend" would need to contact the HQs of both orgs, the one she "depledged" and the one she wants to join, to find out the official ruling. I'm pretty sure that would be the best course of action for you..."friend"...

Since she's (whoops, I mean "her friend") already de-pledged/disaffiliated, there's really no need to contact the first HQ. She needs to talk to someone from the organization she's trying to join.

Good point, although I have heard some GLOs have rules that say you are not allowed to join another if you drop. And maybe in the spirit of Greek Unity the new GLO's HQ would bar her...

Whats so surprising about her asking for her friend? Why would she be embarassed to ask for herself--this is the internet, no one knows her or will ever see her anyway.
Anyway, to answer your question-- I believe your friend can still pledge another sorority as long as she wasn't initiated into the one she depledged.

This is GreekChat. No matter how anonymous you think you are, if people really wanted to find out who you are...they will find out who you are.
Unless you know the membership policies of the NPC sorority she's trying to depledge and the Latina sorority she's trying to join, I'd refrain from commenting on what she can or cannot do.

Exactly. It could be that the Latina sorority that she tries to join, might not let her since she was a member of a NPC sorority

Because this is GC...that's why she MAY be saying FRIEND. But REALLY does it matter, what's the point in suggested that we KNOW it may be her...just share the advice and keep it kicking

To the original poster - please stop worrying about your friend's Greek life, your Greek life, and Greek life in general and start worrying about your Grammar life. Please. I know people seem to think chat-speak is acceptable everywhere, but the OP doesn't even qualify as acceptable chat-speak.
