Separate but Really Equal

An article I took from a facebook group on Greek Life and the segregation that exists. I thought it was pretty accurate up until one particular section.

I liked how the "Greek housing, Community Service, and Activities" section didn't mention service at all.

Wow, there were LOTS of generalizations in that article. Pledge classes of 50 for an NIC fraternity OR NPC sorority are definitely NOT the "norm" when you look at all the Greek systems across the country.

That was my exact thought when reading the article. Along with the fact that houses are a necessity for NPC sororities and that we make t shirts for everything. (Although in ASA, we tend to make t shirts for just about anything.)

White fraternities and sororities are larger than NPHC organizations.

right. of course they are. (ok im pretty sure they mean on the UG level, but the statement, like many others, are so blanket its ridiculous.)

Salt and Pepper Mix

"We called it 'Salt and Pepper'. It's the most fun exchange I've ever been to. It was so inclusive," says Heirichs of an event predominately white Kappa Alpha Theta participated in fall of 2005 in a social event with NPHC organizations Omega Phi Psi and Alpha Kappa Alpha. Events like 'Salt and Pepper' are becoming the normal means of showing Greek unity and diversity. At different universities nationwide black and white organizations work on Homecoming floats together, attend "All Greek" barbecues, and perform community service projects together.

So when one talks about Greek segregation know that both sides are equally as prejudiced and that is just the way they seem to like it.

actually, serious question: anyone go to a school where these "mixed parties" happen? do people really mix and mingle and is fun had amongst the masses?
