Question Freshman 21

This spring i'll be attending classes @ my local community college. By then i will be 21 and a freshman. I'm only going to the community college to being up my g.p.a and hopefully get into a university for the second semester of my freshman year.

Come Fall '08 I hope to be attending a University here in Fla. As a Freshman, only instead of the usual incoming girls of 18 i'll be 21 turning 22 in Dec. I would love to Rush and join a sorority. Now i understand there isn't an age limit... But realistically what are my chances of being accepted in?
I know they have the whole big sis- lil sis. Wouldn't it be ackward to have someone younger be a big sis? Does that happen?

No kids, not married, just an older freshman...

I think that you have a shot at getting in. As far as the age difference in big/littles......You are all sisters so it wouldn't be that awkward and I have seen it happen on occasion and they bonded like sisters do and everything was fine. You won't be that much older than the rest of the of the new member class in whichever sorority you join and there may be some your age.

I'm guessing her highschool one...

I would think that being a freshman, you would have a decent shot (depending on the school). Most of the people who come here to ask questions about being older and rushing are generally married and/or have kids, which makes a huge difference. Just be prepared to answer questions about what you did in highschool (activities-wise) and why you waited to go to college.

21 is not that old and considering you are going to be a freshman, your chances are good. I was 22 and a junior when I joined, and my ADPi little sister was 20 and a soph. It was never wierd.

I think a lot of your chances may be impacted upon which school you are attending. I don't know if being "older" than the traditional freshman would effect your chances at a school like UF or FSU, as compared to a much less competitive greek system like what we have here at Florida Tech, where it wouldn't be a problem.

I think, though, that if the sisters see that you are a freshman and would be able to be active for the full 4 years, being an "older" freshman might not matter...

Best of Luck to you!

I imagine that you don't look much older than an 18 yo. So unless the question comes up, age doesn't matter. You are a freshman, and therefore would have 4 years to give.

As a freshman, most would assume you just graduated, and therefore wouldn't bother to ask anyway.

Just don't volunteer the info. If they ask (which I doubt they will), be truthful. I wouldn't think it too weird if your big sister was younger. Bigs are there more for you to have someone to guide you through pledging, not to give you worldly advice. And chances are, you may have a Big sister who is your age.

As far as your chances of getting a bid, it would depend on which school in FL you're going to.

In terms of Big/Little Sis, age is no big deal. I joined my sorority as a sophomore (19) and my Big Sis was a 2nd semester freshman (18).
