We called it Watermelon Bust. Did the name change?
At our school, Bust consisted of three parts
1) Can collecting over a certain time period and deadline to turn in the cans at a drop off (this was evaluated on basis of weight, not the number of cans collected. I think sacks of rice and sealed jugs of water counted, too)
2) Watermelon competition held during the day (watermelon relay race, seed spitting, watermelon helmet carving contest, watermelon slip n'slide (no rinds!), watermelon toss (how far can you throw a whole melon), chunk toss). All of the sororities made t-shirts-- lots of fun.
3) sign and banner contest to display outside your house and at the watermelon relay
It all ended with a party at the house where the winners were announced.
