Pharmaceutical sales are a strange animal, because you are not actually selling anything, you are talking the doctor into prescribing it. If you get to the point where you discuss compensation, I would be sure you are very, very clear on how you are getting paid.
Your medical background will help you, but I suggest you also consider sales of medical products/devices in addition to just drugs. Think about how well you could leverage your knowledge into a demonstration of an OR product's features. If you want some companies, PM me...I used to work in that area.
