quick question about rush
im going to be a freshman this fall, and was wondering when i should rush, i really dont know much about fraternities. Most people live in the dorms for the first semester, is rush usually at the beginning of the semester or at the end becuase wouldnt you have to move out of hte dorms in order to pledge??
I guess if anyone could give me a list of what happens and about what times in the semester just so i have an idea that would be cool.

As much as i know it really depends on what school you go to. Every school has different process.

No, you don't need to move out of the dorms once you pledge, although that may be an option available to you. Contact the Student Activities office on your campus (or Greek Life if it is a separate office) and ask them for the recruitment schedule for fraternities.

Once you move in a dorm you might have to stay there for 12 months because you'll have a contract for that long. At least that's how it works at my school.

Ditto on that, (for the full school year at least). Our school's contracts were a bitch to try and get out of.
However if there's a norm with Greek Life, they may expect freshmen pledges/new members to move.

Many state schools will let you out of your on-campus housing contract with a letter from the Resident Director (house mom, etc) of your Fraternity house stating that you have an obligation to your org to live in the house.

Depends on the state. PA would have laughed very hard at this suggestion.
