Does your GLO have a GPA requirement to remain active? What happens to members if they do not meet this requirement? Probation? Suspension of membership?

What about if you have this problem for several semesters?

Not 100% sure what they do now. When I was active, we were usually either #1 or #2 in grades. Our minimum GPA was all men's average which was usually around a 2.6-2.7. We had mandatory study hours at the house if you fell below. There was a further minimum that if you fell below, there would be increased study hours followed by suspension altogether. I believe it was a 2.25.

People above all-men's still had mandatory study hours, but they were minimal.

I believe that our nationals requires a 2.5. On our campus we require a 2.8. We would like everyone to have above a 3.0. If anyone has less than 3.0 that person is required to go to study tables.

2.9 = 1 hour study tables
2.8 = 2 hours study tables
2.7 = 3 hours study tables
And so on...

Anyone with below a 2.5 is put on social probation

If we, as a chapter, fall below 2.8 for two consecutive semesters we may be at risk of loosing our charter (according to the university agreement).

how do you enforce individual members to keep their GPA up????

simply telling them their on social probation doesn't mean they'll comply>??

Study tables help. Officer board runs study tables and the girls have to sign in. Our campus is pretty small (15,000 tops), so there is a good chance someone will be in a class with them. We hold each other to standards. We call when they are not in class/skip class. We provide incentives at meeting, like a no skip jar, and the smarty pants.

It is pretty hard to fail a class or get a poor grade if you attend class everyday. You have to try to fail.

I would add that it is more than attending. You should get a passing/decent grade if you attend class, pay attention, participate, and do your homework on time.

our national GPA is a 2.5. Our chapter goal is a 2.75.

If your cummulative goes below a 2.5, you go on academic probation. You have ONE SEMESTER to bring it back to a 2.5 otherwise your membership is suspended. You CAN appeal once your grade is back where it needs to be though.

In my chapter, if you semester GPA is below a 2.5, but your cummulative is still okay, then you are strongly encouraged to do a minimum of 8 study hours per week.

we also have academic incentives. Like for one, the Georgia HOPE scholarship. Most of our girls try to keep a 3.0 anyway, because the state of GA pays your tuition if youre a resident. We also have the "Smarty" tee - which is when the sister with the highest SEMESTER GPA gets a tshirt with letters and the word "Smarty" on the back. It's liek bragging rights, and its alot of fun, too.

In theory, this should work....but then you've got jackass professors who base your entire grade on 3 tests....If you dont do too well on the first one, you're screwed for the rest of the class. Not only that, but for "participation" he takes away 2 points from your test grade if you skip a debate. (debates are only 1 class per week). He said his reason for doing this is that in previous semesters, extra credit for attending the debates didnt work, so now he's using negative reinforcement to get students to come to class. grrrrrr.

How are members who are on probation handled? Are they considered to be "disaffiliated" or just banned from attending social events? What about suspension?

I believe they are only allowed to come to meetings and sisterhoods.

probation for us means you lose your vote, you have to surrender your pin, and you arent allowed to attend socials unless the academic achievement chair is satisfied with your progress and permits you to go.

Suspension means you arent a member anymore.

Yeah its a nice incentive. But boy does it SUCK when you lose it. You have checkpoints at the 30, 60 and 90 hour marks. If you dont have a 3.0 at that time, you lose it, and you cant regain it again until you hit the next check point. I kept it until the 60 hour mark - had one really bad semester, and couldnt recover from it. I'm hitting the 90 hour mark at the end of the semester, and even as good as Ive done bringing it back up, the only way I can regain it is to have solid As this semester. 3 As and a B would put me at a 2.98. =(

But most people lose it at the end of their freshman year...slackers =) I figure it was an accomplishment that I kept it for 2. Cest la vie.
