Save the Date: FCAC Literary Expo (DC)

Organized by the sorority's Arts and Letters committee, this is an annual free community event that was developed 4 years ago to foster public awareness and appreciation of the various literary genres of profound diversity, creativity, and audience appeal for all ages. The program highlights the works of area authors, poets, storytellers and playwrights throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC community. I mentioned elsewhere that I will be participating in this event, but here are the details:

November 20, 2005, 3-5 pm, American University's Kay Spiritual Life Center (4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC)

Renowned author and poet Nikki Giovanni will read from her latest release, the children’s book Rosa based on the life of civil rights activist Rosa Parks. In addition to Ms. Giovanni, we are showcasing up and coming authors and poets including: authors Lori Lincoln, Minister Andrea Michele Irby, Rashid Darden; children’s book authors Charisse Carney-Nunes, Adrienne Lance Lucas; and poets Kwame Alexander and John Johnson. This family-oriented event will include door prizes for adults and children, a book signing and reception, and free and fun entertainment for all ages. The venue is located near Ward Circle with parking at the Nebraska Ave. parking lot. It is also Metro accessible at the Tenleytown station on the Red Line.
