Save the Date: FCAC Literary Expo (DC)
 
WASHINGTON, DC - The Federal City Alumnae Chapter (FCAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will hold its annual "LITERARY EXPO" from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Sunday, November 20, 2005, location (in Washington, DC) to be announced later.

Organized by the sorority's Arts and Letters committee, this is an annual free community event that was developed 4 years ago to foster public awareness and appreciation of the various literary genres of profound diversity, creativity, and audience appeal for all ages. The program highlights the works of area authors, poets, storytellers and playwrights throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC community. Past Literary Expo participants have included authors LaDawn Black, Patricia Elam, Marita Golden, A. C. Moore, Psychotherapist Dr. D. Kim Singleton, PhD as well as playwrights Sharon Cassell, Chloe Cooper, Gregory Cutler, Michael Koroma, Charisse-Sojourner Peace and Kimberly Perry. A reception will follow the program to allow event guests an opportunity to meet and greet the participants as well as purchase their works. Members of the Washington, DC arts community are encouraged to attend.

I mentioned elsewhere that I will be participating in this event, but here are the details:

November 20, 2005, 3-5 pm, American University's Kay Spiritual Life Center (4400 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC)

Renowned author and poet Nikki Giovanni will read from her latest release, the children’s book Rosa based on the life of civil rights activist Rosa Parks. In addition to Ms. Giovanni, we are showcasing up and coming authors and poets including: authors Lori Lincoln, Minister Andrea Michele Irby, Rashid Darden; children’s book authors Charisse Carney-Nunes, Adrienne Lance Lucas; and poets Kwame Alexander and John Johnson. This family-oriented event will include door prizes for adults and children, a book signing and reception, and free and fun entertainment for all ages. The venue is located near Ward Circle with parking at the Nebraska Ave. parking lot. It is also Metro accessible at the Tenleytown station on the Red Line.
