E.Lynn Harris......Is He Your Frat.....???
I was just wondering.....Is E.Lynn Harris author of Invisible Life and so on......Is he a Kappa?
How do you all feel about your gay frat brothers? Can you put the prejuice aside? Do you ignore the fact that he is gay?

MN,
Correct me if I am wrong. Is the Kappa Alpha Psi Forum the secret place for all the bad azz threads (questions) and all the good threads go to the other Forums...
Dayum,
"How do you feel about your gay frat brothers?" What the....
How do you think I feel about gays in my FRAT!?
The real question is how do we feel about these crazy azz questions that get asked every 3 or 4 weeks... I am sorry if I seem anal, but save those questions for someone else's Forum, please. Personally, I don't have anything against homosexuals but they are not welcome in my FRAT.
"Um yo brother... Um yo brother don't you know... Um yo Brooooooother...Um you brother, don't you nooooooo ooooooh.

You see it says woman and man not half woman and half man.... GET IT!

Deja--no sarcasm! Of course this was the mid seventies but we worked together on the yearbook and he never gave us a hint of being gay in any way. I haven't thought about him in years!

I think you can find some sort of "abandonment" in any situation (sickness, monetary deficiencies, legal matters, etc) from family, sorority/fraternity, church members, friends, etc.
So, it should not be too surprising in this instance. It is unfortunate that this has happened, but if you and others are there for him, and are there for him GENUINELY, then that's all that matters. You cannot worry what others are or are NOT doing, frat brother, soror, momma, daddy, sister, brother, son, daughter, grandma, grandpa, friend, whomever. They will be held accountable for their actions.

Deja,
Please do not portray HIV/AIDS as a homosexual thing, cuase we all know that it is not. Yes, there is are certain feelings regarding homosexuals. But I work for an organization that deals with HIV Prevention, so I have seen how this disease has ruined the life of men and women both hetero and homosexual. 90% of HIV cases are in Africa, and they are transmitted mostly by heterosexual contact. Also there are so many myths surrounding HIV and the ignorance that is displayed about it is mind bottling. Did you know that there is a myth in Uganda that if you have sex with a white woman who is a virgin, you will be cured of HIV? Also, the carribean and South America have the second highest HIV rates in the world, and most of the time this is through HETEROSEXUAL contact.
The plain fact is that a lot of people think the way they will about homosexuality. I ain't gonna sit up here and lie, I have my own hangups and I work with some gay men. As far as those brothers not being there for the frat brother you were talking about. That's sad. I would definately view my sands differently if they came out and said they were gay, but you have but one set of ships/LBs/sands whatever term you want to use, and I will always be there for them.

ManndingoNupe and AKA2D91:
Very well said.
I am real emotional about this topic and don't know what else to say.
(I went back to check and there is no smily for tear drops).

I was trying to stay out of this one until I knew which direction the topic was going. Deja asked how we would feel about a gay frat brother. Well how would you feel about a gay soror? Like my frat said, I have my own hangups about homosexuality. However, it would be foolish for me to think that there are no gay men in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. This goes for Alpha,Omega,Sigma, and Iota. Kappa Alpha Psi, does not discriminate. Never have. The day greeks start doing this, the day we have more law suits filed against us on top of all the hazing ones. Whether or not you believe that gays deserve any civil rights, the fact of the matter is they are being discriminated against in this country. WE as blacks were and still are being discriminated against in this country. I will not subject someone else to the same bigotry and injustice I face. To ask me how I would feel about a gay frat brother, is to ask me how I feel about gay people in general. They have become a fabric of our society. There is nothing we can do. To hate them is going against the teachings of Jesus Christ. If you believe that homosexuality is a sin, remember that even Jesus loves sinners. Keep that in mind.
