UT-Austin

Anyone attend this university?? It's on my grad school list, what are your thoughts about the university/campus life/surrounding area.

I didn't go to UT, but I live in Austin now. Austin is GREAT!!! I love living here... there is tons to do and its alot of fun. As for UT, it's a great school. It's where I would really like to go to grad school too. And, I went to A&M, so it must be great for me to have good things to say about it. LOL

Co-sign!! I received my bachelor's degree from UT and I think you would love it in Austin. There's so much variety there. Always something to do! You'll find many excellent grad programs at UT. Austin is still one of my favorite places.

I LOOOOOVE Austin! I live in Dallas right now so it's not too far away. Austin offers everything for everyone! Whether you're a city person or country person. I love downtown, it's small yet offers things that big cities have. I love the small stores and coffee houses (Metro, Mozarts, Little City, Spyder House) and Austin is so pretty. I never am bored, there's always something to do. It's boho life is thriving from the musicians on the streets to the movies being filmed around town. It's just a great city all around! Oh yeah and if you're a fan of water, they've got places to swim, boat, or tan too!

Does their team really suck?? Not really into college football though.

As an Aggie, I HATE to say this, but no their team doesn't suck. They're actually really good. But, they never seem to win the Big XII in football, which I lke.

They have the 3rd largest university endowment behind Harvard and Yale.

I'm not a student at UT, but I have family in Austin and it's a great place... both the university and the city in general.

this is coming from a northerner (indiana) - i absolutely love Austin - seriously, by far it is the best city in texas (at least the ones i have been to!)

I have been working for the past 2 months in Houston, and every chance I get i head to Austin. The nightlife and live music scene there is amazing - there is so much variety and so much to do. The city is just beautiful - there are tons of lakes and nature sites to do things at. The food is incredible down there, and the people were all so friendly.

After the awesome experience I had in Austin, it is currently top on my list for grad school as well. If you have a chance - get down there - I'm sure you'll fall in love with the city

My sister is there for nursing school (she went to A&M for her undergrad) she loves it there. I hopefully will get to finally visit there when she gets married in may. I'm sooo excited but yeah I've heard nothing but good about Austin.

So, two years later, here I am, another GCer looking at UT Austin for grad school. I know I already LOVE the city (and I'm pretty sure it's the only city in Texas I could handle). I'm a little concerned about getting in, though. I'm an out-of-state person, and am looking at a Mc Combs MBA program. So, TexExes, do you think the business school would let in a northerner like myself? I hope so, because I'd love to live in Austin, and I've visited enough that I sometimes get homesick for it! (dorky, I know).

If McCombs is anything like the Law School, the entering class will have about 35% of its students out of state--which is a pretty small percentage when you compare it to Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, or UVa's law schools. They want people to stay in Texas.

I love love love Austin, and if I ever go back to school, then UT will be at the top of my list. A few of my really good friends grew up there, and I think it's a pretty awesome town.
