Simple & "Cheap" Alumnae Association Events

Hi all. I am looking for suggestions for simple and cheap events for our alumnae association. Since it is the summertime, a lot of people are out of town so I don't want to go out of my way to plan something that only a handful of people are gonna show up to. Also, several of my sisters are currently unemployed so expensive dinners are out. It seems like I have been planning Happy Hours lots lately and want something new and original. I planned a Sat. afternoon mani/pedi day and lunch and it was cancelled due to lack of committments. I am at a loss for ideas. Also, trying to plan a trip AWAY from the city doesn't seem to have been working either (ie. the beach or upstate). We are a pretty young group of women (20's & 30's) so it should be easy to come up with ideas for this age group.

Have you tried a wine tasting or beer tasting event? Those usually get a good response and they're not very costly.

winny,

if you want info on wine tastings, PM me.

I used to give them when I was with a winery. Not expensive and fun.

Wine tastings are popular for our alumnae chapter as well. We usually tour the winery and then taste....

How about a "High Tea" given at a member's apt or house....have very inexpensive edibles....dress up in hats, gloves, and feather boas....use the best china/silver that the member has....or get pretty mismatched tea cups at yard sales...So much fun.

How about a "Remember Ritual" storytelling day just for alums in a private location?

Another suggestion is the pottery painting stuff. Usually that's not very expensive if you can get several people to go (I think when we did it we paid like $10/person, and we had about 12 ladies show up). Also, what about a pot-luck dinner?

Since I have not heard from winneypooh, I thought I would pass this along to all of you!

How to do a Cheap Wine Tasting:

Hi winney,

wine tasting can be done at home or apartment club house if have one.

Really can be inexpensive and easy.

Choose 5 wines:

2 white: Chardonay and say a Chenin Blanc.

2 Red: Gammay Beaujolais and Merlot or Cabernaet Savignon.

1 either, a Rose, Champagne, or Port / Sherry

This gives different taste with both the whites and reds.

Have little plastic cups just to give a taste.
Have unsalted crackers to have between each type of wine to cleanes the palate.

Depending on how many plan on coming, is how much wine you need of each type.

Have little cards for each taster write down their comments on what they taste and then compare after initial tasting.

After inital tasting use the left over and have some wine two piece plastic wine glasses.

Have several types of cheese and crackers to have with the regular drinking after wards as you compare notes or just chat.

Most of the wine and two piece wine glasses can be found at your wine shop. Wines do not have be the most expensive as many wines are reasonably priced.

Say can do all of this for @ $70.00-$100.00 max. Should charge a small fee to help cover the cost depending on how many people come.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me!!!!!!!

Have Fun !!!!!

The pot luck dinner has always gone over pretty well. We have one member who has a big house so we meet there sometimes. I like the wine tasting idea. On the negative side, NYC apts. are so teeny-tiny, it's difficult to plan stuff "at home" due to this reason. I'll talk to my sisters about the pottery idea.
