Anyone know about jewelry?
I have to resell my diamond engagement ring and diamond wedding band. I thought I would ask you all for advice. If you want to know why, check out the relationship forum under the "Married Again" thread...
Both are Scott Kay. The engagement ring is a platinum setting with .60 CT of invisible set princess cut diamonds that are F-G, VS. The center stone is a colorless .75 CT princess cut diamond Color E, Clarity SI1. It is described as a rectangular modified brilliant cut measuring 5.10x4.57x3.60 MM.
My wedding ring is platinum with the same invisible set princess cut diamonds across the band. I have no idea the specifics of weight, etc.
Do you know where I should go to sell these? Would it benefit me to sell them separately or as a set? Any info would help.

Hootie is gone.
I did a short (2 year) stint in the jewelry world. This happened fairly often. Usually, they would be referred to another person (usually an independent store). If you have all of the certification papers, then resale should be relatively easy.

Also, consider Ebay.

I work in jewelry.
Depending on how big the town is that you live in, it can be pretty difficult to find a store who will purchase jewelry. Most (but I can't say for sure, ALL) chain stores are not able to buy your jewelry from you. You are more likely to have luck in a small, privately owned store. You might have to make quite a few phone calls before you find a store that will purchase these.
The good news is that the items that you have, especially with the certification, will be able to get a pretty good price and be easy to sell. I can't say for sure whether it would be better to sell as a set. If the diamond band seems like a higher carat weight, it might be more beneficial to try to sell it separately.
Some people also have pretty good luck selling their jewelry in the classified ads of your newspaper. Although it may be hard to believe, guys who are thinking about getting engaged might be interested in your rings!
I have never seen anyone get anywhere CLOSE to the resale value of the diamond when someone sells their engagement ring on Ebay. It might happen, but usually the price isn't equal to the worth.
Good luck!

ditto. I know a lot about jewerly cause I buy A LOT of jewerly lol, but I dont know about store policy and resale value.
I will agree and say dont sell on ebay. I had a good guy friend who did this and then one of my hubbys frat bros did this too when they didnt get married, they went on ebay and sold their engagement rings, both would have lost a TON of money on them. One didnt care too much, he was just glad to get it out of his house, the other decided not to sell before the auction was close and he kept the ring. I just hope he doesnt use it to get engaged to another girl lol.

Hehe. Are they insured? Can you just "lose" them?
Do you absolutely have to sell them? Why not take them to a jeweler and have him/her use the stones to make yourself an awesome set of earrings or a nice bracelet.
ETA: Before I get flamed, I was not seriously suggesting she commit insurance fraud. It was a humorous thought, and while we all wish we could skirt around the rules, I personally would not do such a thing nor would I seriously condone this behavior. Thanks and have a nice day.

I think you should take AXiD670's suggestion one step further, and somehow get your ex blamed for the insurance fraud.
(Again, like the previous poster, this is just a joke. I'm not condoning insurance fraud or having one's former spouse arrested, tempting though it may be.)
Is there anyway you can make your ex buy them from you at a higher value than you'd get from reselling them to a jewelry store? Get him to give you the cash, and let him bear the burden of trying to sell them. And if you do sell them, is it considered a marital asset for which you have to give your ex half of the proceeds?
Whatever you do, I hope you pamper yourself with the proceeds - you deserve it!

How much do you want for them? Have you had them appraised?

The engagement ring was appraised for insurance purposes 3 years ago and it was listed at $8,000. I have no idea about the wedding band.

You could probably sell them in NYC in the diamond district. I would caution you to go to someone a family member or friend recommends. Unfortunately, sometimes people aren't honest.
