lavaliers vs. letters
Does wearing a lavalier count as "wearing letters"? As in the rules for drinking, smoking, cursing...etc?
I was told that some girls in my chapter don't consider the lavalier as restricting them from these activities. I had always been told it counted though...how does your chapter view these things?
Thanks!

According to our chapter, it totally counts. However, we understand that it's a lot easier to forget that you have a small lavaliere hanging around your neck as opposed to having on a shirt with giant letters. The general rule for us is to only wear our lavalieres when we know we won't be anywhere near temptation.

The thing is...you walk outside for a smoke, you can tuck the lavalier inside your shirt and be done with it.

it counts!!
it's letters...just a smaller version of them. if it is important enough to have them around your neck for everyone to see, then you should not engage in negative behaviors. letters mean the same regarless of size and how they are worn!!!

Hi Pixell!
Technically, lavalieres and letters are the same thing. Both identify you as a Delta Zeta. And, naturally, whatever you do when you're wearing either of them reflects on our sisterhood
If you're out partying or grabbing a smoke or otherwise not looking your "Delta Zeta best" (our CCD used to use that term; it cracked us up!), leave the letters at home and tuck your lavaliere into your shirt. That was what I did because I wore my lavaliere 24/7 in college.
Hope everything is going well and you're enjoying life as an Initiate!
DZLM,
Tracy

It technically counts for us but it's not as enforced. Most of the girls in my chapter (myself included) wore their lavelieres 24/7, so it was easy to forget.

With my sorority it DEFINITELY COUNTS. I know that I usually wear mine 24/7, so when I had my wine class I had to look in the mirror or ask somebody if I had my necklace on, since I really would forget when I had it on. We've all slipped up once or twice, but it has always been ingrained in our minds while we were pledging that under no circumstances do you WEAR your LETTERS WHILE DRINKING......THIS MEANS YOUR LAVALIER AS WELL.

It counts. Our chapter actually even counts the little key lavalieres a lot of us wear around our necks, too.

with the necklaces, could you tuck it into your shirt so it isnt visible to anyone else, or is it the principle of having it on your body?

To me it's the principle. I could have tucked the necklace into my shirt during class, but it wouldn't have been right and I would have been degrading my letters. That's just me and my opinion.
