== Clears throat == Well thanks for asking being at SFSU I can tell you quite a bit about our greek system... there are several other ( I think of 4 off hand) that go/went to SFSU too who can probably tell you some too... BUT at SFSU there are three national panhellenic sororities Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Phi, and Phi Sigma Sigma. We also have all 4 NPHC... (Historically African American Sororities) on campus as well as LOTS of local sororities. Fraternity wise there are 2 larger national frats, 1 fairly small national fraternity, and again LOTS of locals.
Each NPC sorority has about 30 people in it at the moment with a total (maximum amount of members) of I believe 40 or 45. The school and MOST of its students are fairly anti greek, but since the system is so small we all pretty much know each other and attend the same parties and attend each ohter's events. Rush is relaxed and not as formal as some of the stuff you will read on some of the rush threads at big schools with houses (which we don't have) and 13 chapters. All you have to do to rush is go to open house. (there will be sorority ladies in the quad the first few weeks of school handing out fliers and telling people about rush)No pre-registration or anything needed.
I think being greek is the BEST way to make it feel like a truly "college" experience and not feel the commuter school thing so much. Rush is usually the 3 week in September in the fall (this year the 15 of Sept) and spring time is usually the second week, HOWEVER it is looking as if there is a POSSIBILITY there MAY not be a spring rush for 2004. We have LOTS of names on the list for rush this year, so if all of them go through it's possible that for the first time in SFSU's history each sorority could reach total and not have to have a spring rush (this is all speculation at this point BUT it's possible with the number of women we possibly have coming through this fall. ) I hope this helped answer some of your questions and I HOPE that you decide to rush it's the best decision I ever made !
Although I know some people who attend USF and I know their greek system is small... (if not smaller than ours) that is about all I know so I think somone else may have to help you out with information about that school on the hill
