Question for the Alum Initiates

Just out of curiosity: did you become a member of an organization that had a collegiate chapter at your university? Similarly, did you become a member of an organization that cut you during rush as an undergraduate?

In my case, I seriously pursued two organizations - one of which had a chapter at my alma mater (they cut me after the second round of rush). Alpha Phi didn't have a chapter at my university, although there was a chapter at a university across town when I was an undergraduate.

I have pursued two organizations:

Sorority #1: was one which has a chapter at my undergrad university. I was really excited whey gave me a bid about 4 hours after informal recruitment started. (!!!) Unfortunately, I wasn't able to accept it due to the worsening of my mother's illness. Three years later I did informal with this group again and it was an awful experience. Sometime later, I decided to give it one last go with AI. I had an OK time with the alumnae members, but the memories of my negative experience with certain collegiate members kept me from truly feeling like I could be at home there.

Sorority #2: I found by chance. They do not have a chapter of their organization at my undergradute university. However, there is a chapter about an hour away.

Iowa State did have both chapters of interest to me.I did not rush the two years I was there.I was n't interested at the time.Unfortunately the most visible groups on campus that I saw in the mid 80's weren't appealing to me.I had several girls in my classes and they fit many stereotypes.Ironically enough, the fraternities were wonderful.
I am glad that I went through now.I think that I can bring more at this point in my life than I ever could as a collegiate.I am a much different person than I was then.AI was the best option for me.

AOII actually HAD a collegiate chapter at my undergrad school but it closed in the 1960s. I don't think that any of the other organizations that I had looked at had chapters at my school at one point in time.

Yes. DG was at my school. bI pledged during COB but wasn't initiated until 15 years later!

The only GLO that cut me was DZ during COB. But the president was the sister of a girl who really didn't like me in high school. Go figure!

Yes.

Yes, however, I should mention had gone to a non-Greek university prior to this and tried to get a DG colony going. So my situation was somewhat different. I also wanted to mention that when I did rush in September, my Dad had died very unexpectedly in the summer, so it was hard to be a smiling, happy rushee, compared to my other rushees. I find that rush is an emotional roller coaster to anyone, but when you are grieving an immediate death in your family, the feelings are that much more amplified.

Later on in life, I actually looked at other organizations as well just to make sure that I was making the right choice. For example, I did look at Tri Delta, which is a wonderful fraternity, however there is no Tri-Delta alumnae chapter in my home city, so that was a bit of a deal breaker (I still have great Tri Delta friends though, who I love dearly. They're delighted for me finding my way "home" to DG). I also looked at a few other organizations, but for some reason, I just could not forget about Delta Gamma. I had tried to colonize them, had such a "history" with them, and knew so much about them, that I really felt that if I was initiated into another NPC, there would be no going back and then I could never be a Delta Gamma. I did not think I could turn my back on Delta Gamma and so I became one, and I am grateful everyday to be a Delta Gee!

I went to the Univiersity of Arkansas at fayetteville and there was no Alpha Phi Chapter there nor any chptr in the state. I tried COB with Phi Mu and 1. my grades were somewhat low and 2. then they closed.

I came home to California to continue on with school at a CSU and there was a Alpha Phi chapter. But that point i was 25ish and i thought no one would take me at that age so i never pursued it. I really wish i did because it was thru that chapter i was initated back in November!

Hey either way I am an Alpha Phi and thats all that counts YEAH!!!!!!!!!! also might i add loving every minute of it!

No, there was not an AXiD chapter at my college. I had not even heard of AXiD until I came onto Greekchat.

So, no. I didn't even go through Rush while in school, and did not attend COB events either.
