Scholarship

I wanted to ask my fellow sisters what their chapter does to promote scholarship. I'm interested in being the scholarship chair or social chair for fall and I have a ton of ideas for social.

But our scholarship area could use some help. So far we award little prizes at the end of the semester for highest GPA and most improved GPA. And at each meeting if you went to all your classes for the week you state your rush class( like Alpha Gamma), but if you skipped you just get to state "here"

I'm looking for some more ideas. I would like to start a study table night, to promote scholarship as well as sisterhood and make it optional, because we all know that certain classes are better for group help while others are better if you just study by yourself.

Another idea I had was to add points for A's and B's to our point sysytem, maybe to even one day start a merit system for all chapter functions.

As well as have some sort of prize each week for turning in study hours, and class attendance.

I know some chapters have a Skippy Jar (like the peanut butter) that they put a quarter in for each class that they miss.

I was wonder if you all had any other ideas. I want to see our chapter grow in all aspects, especially academics because that is the first reason that all of us are at school for, the sisterhood is just a bonus

Hi Allie!

Just wanted to let you know that you are definitely on the right track.... Beta does many of the things you have been pondering.

We have MANDATORY study table hours for each girl. It is based upon their GPA, the higher your gpa (such as 3.0 - 3.49 does 4 hours a semester and academic probation requires once a week) the fewer hours you have to complete. There are fines set in place for this as well. We offer study tables twice a week in the same location for 2 hours a night (Tues & Thurs. from 7-9 pm), with extra hours during dead week and finals week.

We also have a program called Sigma Alpha Smarts. It is a system designed to track points for A's and B's on tests, quizzes, etc. One of our Scholarship Chairs from a few years ago started it. It fell to the wayside and we are in the process of reviving it. So if you have any questions, let me know and I'll give the the contact info for our Scolarship Chair, Christi.

Also, as of last night, we raised our GPA requirements. We have been noticing a trend of several of the sororities on campus having much higher gpa's. Our bylaws used to require a 2.25 for good standing, but it is now a 2.3. A small move I know, but we will be working to continually raise this throughout the next few years in order to constantly improve the scholastic part of our chapter.

If you have any other questions, just let me know!

Sisterly Luv~

Well the new e-board has appointed chairs, and well I'm not the scholarship chair

But I am the social chair LOL I am one of the cheerleader types when it comes to the sisters and the chapter I try to encourage everyone to try there best and do the right thing, and I guess the sister appreciate it since I get to plan the sisterhood events for the semester. There are also 2 other social chairs (we are trying something new) They will be planning our semi-formal.
