"Make" a gift
OK, so check this out. I have to make a gift for my girl. Who does this? Any girls have any ideas? Can I buy something that looks like it was handmade?
This is seriously ridiculous.

LOL..I'm guessing this was her idea. Well the best idea I can think of is maybe going to one of those ceramic places, you know the ones where they have pieces you can buy and paint, and they'll fire up in the kiln? You could make a frame or a plate for her or something and put something sweet on it. I don't know if that helps, but good luck!!!

you can always bake her cookies and buy a glass plate personalize the plate by painting designs or a message to her (do this on the bottom outside so the cookies don't actually touch the paint). my cousin gave me a plate one year n a gift exchange and i loved it.

Why do you have to make her a gift? I'm curious.
Maybe you could make her dinner, or "make" yourself into her love slave for the weekend. Or you could make (plan) an awesome night out on the town, with dinner and drinks. I mean, "make" can be interpreted many ways, right?

Picture frames are easy... put a cute picture of you two in it and she'll love it. What girl doesn't love pictures?

phimugirlie, yes this was her idea. Your idea about the ceramic place is actually great. I didn't think of it but I've actually been to a place like that before.
valkyrie, I didn't do anything bad if that's what you're thinking . I guess making something shows "I care". It's really ridiculous. And I've made food before and planned nights out...I should have saved that stuff for something like this. I'm definitely not being a love slave because all of a sudden certain coupons in the coupon book she gave me because "conditional" one day.
MTSUGURL, if i gave a picture with me in it, isn't that bad? Like what does that mean? Is it egotistical? Wait, it doesn't mean I'm one step closer to being really committed does it?

that is really cute!
No, I think that is a good idea . Homemade cards and gifts from the bf are a lot more special to me (and a lot of girls I know) than jewelry, etc., at least while I am still in college, so I think it is very cool of your girlfriend to ask you to "make" something. (And, although probably said in jest, if I was bought something that looks homemade even though I asked my bf for something homemade, I would be so disappointed. )
I was the lucky recipient of a "make" day a little while ago. Along the same lines as making a gift, my guy made me a tape of a bunch of cool songs that I liked (not sappy stuff though, and a tape so I can jog with it....plus tapes take more time than a cd). He made me dinner which was incredible because he doesn't cook at all, ever, so the effort was noted. Plus, my favorite, he volunteered at a local soup kitchen with me because we needed volunteers. Since he is super busy and volunteering means a lot to me, I really appreciated it.
All the ideas mentioned are quite good. As MTSUgirl mentioned, a homemade picture frame with BOTH of you would be a great idea as well as pottery, candleholders, vases, etc..... Also, I guess this is not homemade, but it is one of my favorite gifts. My bf gave me one of his favorite old t-shirts. Since I know how much he liked to wear it, it meant a lot to me that he gave it to me. (I don't wear it to class, but I will sleep in it.)
Really though, my suggestion would be to "make" her a weekend and let her make all the choices, possibly surprising her along the way with small homemade gifts or little flowers.
You are right. This is what girls do. But really it is not that complicated. Treat us well and show us that you care. Good luck.

I don't understand why women can't be happy when you give them a certificate to their favorite store for a good couple of hundred bucks.

How about a mix CD with all her favorite songs, or songs that are particularly special to both of you?

haha, wait, iamthechamp - you can date me j/k
I like this idea Rudey - it sounds cute. I definitely suggest the pottery place where you can paint and fire your own piece - maybe do a frame? then put a picture of the two of you in there. plus you could go all out and make her a CD of songs she loves/songs that are special to the two of you as well.
You'll score major points on this one

Cooking a nice dinner would be feasible as well. Complete with your own cocktail creation.

If you don't have any pictures of the 2 of you, then don't do a picture by yourself. That would definitely look egotistical to me. How long have you 2 been dating? If it's long enoughg to warrant sticking around through Christmas and buying a gift, I don't think this would be too "committed". I'm not saying frame a marriage proposal....

If I think about how long I've been with her I'll freak and feel like a hunted deer. OK tell me if there's anything wrong with this: I'll make a ceramic thing (not sure if they have photoframes but if they do i'll make that) and a CD with songs and a video "card".
This won't make me look too emotional will it? I'll wear army fatigues on the video...maybe with an eye patch or something if it does.
I'm remembering everyone else's comments too so maybe on another important date I can do the dinner/cocktail thing.
