Are you by any chance out in Eastern PA? If you are close to the S June Smith center, you could have the rushees make "goody bags" for the kids there. There is a wish list on the national site of the things they need.
If not, try doing something similar for a local battered women's shelter or homeless shelter - you can put in little sample sizes of toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo etc. Try calling groups in the area and asking what they are
truly in need of that would fit the situation. Sometimes I think groups do what is convenient for them and don't bother asking if it will make a difference to the disadvantaged people who need it.
At any rate, make it something that's very easy to do and hard to screw up (even for art-deprived people such as myself).
