Formal Rush Philanthropy
I have to come up with the philanthropy project for the rushees to do for philanthropy night of formal rush. It seems like a lot of the sororities here make cards, so I want to do something different. It has to be pretty simple because they only have about 30-45 minutes. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Livvy,
Are you by any chance out in Eastern PA? If you are close to the S June Smith center, you could have the rushees make "goody bags" for the kids there. There is a wish list on the national site of the things they need. If not, try doing something similar for a local battered women's shelter or homeless shelter - you can put in little sample sizes of toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo etc. Try calling groups in the area and asking what they are truly in need of that would fit the situation. Sometimes I think groups do what is convenient for them and don't bother asking if it will make a difference to the disadvantaged people who need it. At any rate, make it something that's very easy to do and hard to screw up (even for art-deprived people such as myself). :) |
Hey Livvy!
What we did for formal rush was we took aluminum cans filled them with some kind of bean and then had the potential new members decorate slips of paper the size of an aluminum can and then wrapped it around the can and we donated them to the Special Olympics. The athletes will use the "shakers" as we call them to cheer on their team mates at the Special Olympics held here in April. It went really well and some of the potential new member wanted to decorate more than one! so thats what we did. |
