This school will be the first Osteopathic med school at a public university in PA, however there are 3 regular, allopathic med schools at public universities in PA that grant MDs…University of Pittsburgh, Temple, and Penn State/Hershey.

Pitt, Temple & Penn State are definitely State Schools.

The SSHE schools are state schools - entirely state owned/public. Pitt, Penn State, Temple and Lincoln are state RELATED - halfway between public and private.

Yes, KillarnyRose was a DZ from my chapter 5-10 years after me. I believe her name is Tracie. I was at Pitt with you and lived in Amos Hall…graduated in 1976. I used to post as LampLady, but something happened to my login years ago, so I created a new account.

The University of Pittsburgh’s move to provide free tuition to undergraduate regional campus students from Pennsylvania whose family’s adjusted gross income is $75,000 or less is part of a growing trend, even at public universities.

Pitt announced the Pitt Regional Campus Tuition Pledge on April 30, and it will be applicable starting this fall for incoming and continuing students at the Johnstown, Greensburg and Bradford campuses, along with nursing students at Titusville. The program will be funded internally by the University, a Pitt spokesman said, but did not disclose any specific cost figures.

“At its core, the Pitt Regional Campus Tuition Pledge is about access and affordability,” the University spokesman said. “Our regional campuses serve many first-generation college students and Pell Grant recipients across Western and Central Pennsylvania, and this program ensures a Pitt education is within financial reach for those students and families.”

Like 33girl said, Temple, Pitt, Penn State and Lincoln University are called "state-related" schools. Their state funding amounts to less than 10% of their revenue, and because of this, they maintain their boards and leadership without the state's involvement. Unlike PASSHE, which is just a cluster.

Interestingly, the degree program has a hefty price tag of $43K per year for in-state and $65K per year out of state.
