Dumb friend makes bad move

Arrgghh... my friend is on the phone with me right now (yes at 4:30am) bawling because her and her best guy friend just had sex.

Let's say it's your 7th day in ur cycle, u just finished ur menstrual week. You have unprotected sex (hence the crying), and he, well, u know. Can u get pregnant if siemen is released not in the vagina, but somewhere outside?

I tried to look it up, but couldn't find anything. Does siemen have to be directly in the vagina to get a girl pregnant?

She's like freakin out and I told her I'd find out as soon as possible so I could ease her mind. Let me know smart people!

TELL THIS GIRL TO GET TO A DOCTOR/PHARMACY AND GET THE MORNING AFTER PILL ASAP!

Semen can very easily swim up your vagina if it is expelled outside of it. It's rare, but it does happen.

She needs to get the morning after pill ASAP.

FYI: Semen can also be found in the pre-ejaculation fluids; even if he hadn't ejaculated, there still is a possibility of becoming pregnant.

Ditto what Shine said. She needs to get the morning after pill. If she can't find it at a doctor/pharmacy nearby, there are places to order it online and they will overnight it to her so she gets it in time.

There is a possibility of becoming pregnant during your period, but, I have to disagree on the idea that semen swim up to the egg deal especially if it wasn't ejaculated into the vaginal cavity. There is no radar for semen to track down that elusive egg. But of course as a precaution have her take a test and etc. Also, have her relax..alot..otherwise she is going to be so stressed out when it's time for her period to come that it's going to come late making her have a false belief that she is pregnant. And for future anti-crisis situations, have her go on an oral birth control, that way, if this happens again, she'll at least have -some- protection.

Of course the sperm cells don't have a "radar" but take into account that millions upon millions of sperm cells can be found within the semen. some sperm cells (out of the possible millions) can find the way to the vaginal cavity. Did you think that they all "follow the leader" and all go the same way?

I'm not even sure why I am telling you this, because it is something you should have learned in your high school HEALTH class. That's one of the reasons that "pulling out early" or ejaculating outside of the vaginal cavity isn't an acceptable form of "birth control."

I've had a problem like this happen to a friend of mine...she had unprotected sex and the guy came outside, but afterwards she went to get the Morning After pill.
Basically you have 72 hours to get the pill...the closer to the time of the incident the better. The pill should be taken according to directions! It will cost about $30.00 at planned parenthood...maybe more now.

Be advised that she'll still have to wait til her next period to know whether or not it worked (obviously)...but she should definately take better precautions in the future!

In a college world full of free condoms it's hard not to get one.

Well there's always Planned Parenthood if she wants an abortion.

That comment of hers reminded me of this time when my sister was 16 and told me that she didn't "agree" with what I was telling her I learned in my BIO100 class about evolution and adaptation. She told me I was a moron for beleiving that.

As for the sperm swimming up the vagina phenomenon...

It DOES happen. That's how come a virgin with an unbroken hymen can become prego.

It is very rare, but it DOES happen.

It's not something that can be agreed or disagreed with, it just is.

I agree with everyone here.. it is rare, but quite possible for her to become pregnant. Depending on your school, Some universities offer the morning after pill at their student health care services center.

I have another friend who took the morning after pill and became really sick when seh took it.... she also bled like crazy on her next period. Thats why my friend is afraid to take it.

There are side effects, but not as serious as an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy. She should get to an MD as soon as possible.

My commuter campus has free condoms and LOADS of information on sex/sexuality in the Women's Resource Center. And Planned Parenthood doesn't have to be on campus for it to be utilized.

I know two people who had to take the morning after pill and didn't have any side effects. And I agree with Cream, I'd rather take the pill and prevent unwanted pregnancy than not because of fear of getting sick!
Maybe the friend will learn a lesson!

Ummm, yeah... bleed like crazy for a week or have a kid in 9 months... pretty easy choice for most people, I think.
