Dropping Another Frats/soror's Line???
I am a firm believer that if you drop another frats line, you have no chance in hell of ever becoming a SIGMA, and probably any other fraternity....
BUT recently I heard a story of a Alpha prospective who dropped line and was picked up by the Ques. The reasoning was...while on line, the kid was hit by an Alpha brother, literally punched. Well the kid, wasnt going out like that, so he actually got into a fight with the guy, while on line. So his reasoning for dropping was somewhat justified....
Ive heard of the same thing happening with the sororities....
What do you think?

Since the prospective or aspirant has not crossed the burning sands. I cannot see any fraternity or soroirty turning down a strong, productive future prospect.
I know if a young educated woman, drop line for another sorority. I would recommend that she completes a self-assessment of herself for at least two years. (Yes, two years -- the prospective needs more time to think about what she really want. Being a part of sorority or fraternity, should not be rush decision)
I just hope that young man does not blame all Alphas for that individuals behavior..
If that Alpha wanted to hit something. He should have went to the gym to box.

Depends on why they didn't complete the process. I don't think it's tolerable now, given MIP. If a person "drops" with MIP, there's usually something faulty going on with the individual.
Back in the day though, I know of eternals that went on to become members of other organizations, usually because of hazing or just off the chain personal violations by their original organization. If an organization would desire to "weed" you out by doing things they wouldn't do to an animal, wouldn't you have the right to align with an organization that actually wants you and your contributions?

Chi-Town, I am a firm believer that you should take the time to access what GLO you want to be a part of.To me, jumping from one org. to the next meant you just wanted to be a part of something. If you want be a part of that GLO, stick with it or try again on the graduate level. You fool no one but yourself by fronting in a frat or sorority that you didn't want to be a part of in the first place.

Assuming that someone has paid money and signed paperwork. . .then they SHOULD be for real about joining the org. I'm not saying they should expect or tolerate getting hazed up. . .
But it seems to me that the kid involved had some rights that were violated and if he really wanted to be an Alpha, then he would/should have done whatever it took to become one, even if it meant dropping dime, suing the chapter, waiting for grad, whatever. (Tough words from somebody in a service frat, huh?)

Its a wrap on anyone who drops another frats line and tries to pledge my chapter. They made their beds and they should lie in it!

Naw, man this wasnt a chicago area chapter, it was a chapter in a whole different region...
I wasnt there when it happend, but i do know, he was online for alpha, and hes now a que.....thats fact......
i think somepeople are confusing the issue, its not that he just decided one day oh i dont want to be an alpha, he dropped line because he HAD to, he "dropkicked" a current member...

It Happens
A similar situation happened at my school a few yrs ago. One of my friends was online for Kappa, dropped, and became a Sigma. The Sigmas deny that it happened, but it did.

I agree with D-Train
If you start something and, for whatever reason, don't finish it, and don't see anything wrong with jumping over to the next available org. then something wasn't right to begin with. Hopefully, when one begins to take the necessary steps to become a part of an org., that is because they have researched and decided that is where they want to be for life, and if it is just as easy to jump over to another org. then their initial reasons could not have been the right ones.

I agree. If you had it in your head to be apart of that organization you should do it whole heartedly.

This is why people need to research the organization of their choice thoroughly and make sure that they are joining for the right reasons before they get on line. We should not be in the business of handing out letters to any Tom, Dick, or Hank that comes along. Some may not agree with this, but I feel that if you dropped line for another Fraternity for whatever reason then you are not welcome in Phi Beta Sigma. We will not and should not be anyone's second(or third)choice. Too many members that have dropped line for other organizations have slipped through the cracks as is. In the end, it only makes us look weak and/or desperate.
