Talking Best college newspapers?

I like the Daily Trojan (USC), the California Aggie (UC Davis), and New University (UC Irvine). What about you?

Well, the two J schools that are most generally ranked "best" by the trade publications, professional societies, etc. are Missouri and The Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Northwestern has had a strong reputation for years in print journalism.

So, in theory, they probably should have the best newspapers.

In reality, I think it depends on the group of student journalists who happen to be working on any given publication in any given year.

You can look at "The Post," the newspaper at Ohio University online at:

http://thepost.baker.ohiou.edu. Click on the "Today's Edition" button to see the entire paper.

I'm familiar with it because it's my Alma Mater and I started reading it when our daughter was in school there several years ago.

Hello,

There is an organization called the Society of Professional Journalists that gives awards each year for the most outstanding student newspapers. They only have the regional awards listed on their site but they give national awards too. The Daily Bruin, the U Penn newspaper and Ohio State all win a lot of the big awards for their regions. I am not too familiar with the other regions.

The Daily Trojan is also a great paper and just to give a little plug here, one of my favorite Phis is the new editor in chief of the Daily Trojan. At USC, where there is such an anti-Greek sentiment among people at the DT, this is HUGE accomplishment!

FYI, The Society of Professional Journalists is also known as Sigma Delta Chi and there are chapters at colleges all over the country.
