Tri Delta Chapter at Dartmouth Is Going Local
In a May 29, 2015 article, the Dartmouth student paper reports:
“ Delta Delta Delta sorority will disaffiliate from its national organization and become a local sorority after a chapter-wide vote, Tri-Delt president Lauren Buchanan ’16 said Thursday. Tri-Delt will need to select a new name, new colors and will also face various logistical hurdles before it can officially reincorporate.”
For much, much more, including reports on finances, insurance, the percentage of chapter members required to pass the “go local” decision, and so on, see the paper’s article

This is not the first time an NPC chapter at Dartmouth has reverted to local. The University seems to really encourage the move, which is interesting. I wish them well, if this is what makes them happy.
I do wonder who legally owns the house that the chapter is in currently. This article seems to use the term "house" interchangeably with "chapter" or "sorority", so I am not certain if the article really claims that the physical house will remain with the girls once they are officially no longer NPC DDD.

So will the ladies be granted alumnae status from DDD? I don't know much about chapter financials, but it sounds like nationals was wanting a lot of $ from them. However, that may be standard. There's a reason I was never treasurer. lol

Did the Tri-Delta chapter at PSU do the same thing, or are they merely sub rosa now?

I can't say for sure, but I was under the impression that TriDelt at PSU became a group called Trilogy

A Tri-Delta I knew in school has a daughter who's a "Tri-Delta" at PSU. That's why I mentioned it.

My impression of the Tri-Delta chapter at Penn State is that some of them reorganized into a sorority-like group called Trilogy for the purposes of holding social events and participating in THON, Penn State's annual philanthropy event. At this point none of them would be members of Tri-Delta still, since those women have all graduated. Any women calling themselves "Tri-Delts" there are either transfers or lying, AFAIK.

No, they will not be granted alumnae status. They voted to disaffiliate from the organization, which is the equivalent of resigning your membership.

I hope the ones who voted no are granted alum status. I'd agree that those who voted yes are effectively resigning their membership.

I am no expert, but I seriously doubt that any of the members will be allowed alumnae status. How could they prove what their vote was?
" A threshold of 70 percent of members was needed for the localization vote to pass, Buchanan said. While the vote was “close,” she does not anticipate that many members who voted against localization will choose to disaffiliate from the new local organization."

If a girl opted not to join the new local organization and petitioned to keep her membership, maybe that would be proof enough for Tri Delta nationals? I also doubt many girls who truly wanted to disaffiliate would still try to keep their membership in the national organization, but I could be wrong.

If they were wise, they took a paper vote that was non-anonymous. For something this critical, I would hope they would do that.

Just to clarify, this is NOTHING like the situation at Penn State. Hazing was involved there (or at the very least there was an accusation) and there's no mention of any of that kind of thing at the Dartmouth chapter.
