Yeah, I think that's also known as hazing.

I am assuming, but NPC rules probably don't apply in this situation. Using the term "on line" means NPHC. NPHC works differently.

I get that. Hazing remains hazing to me.

I think there are a lot of things that are clearly hazing, but we've had plenty of discussions on these boards about things that are technically hazing that a lot of us did and called it FUN not hazing.

I think there are a lot of game type activities that can be done that maybe the NPC wouldn't allow (and in my opinion to its detriment) that the NPHC might. Murder mystery parties, scavenger hunts (minus any embarrassing or hurtful elements), team sports, trust exercises, problem solving tasks all would do these kinds of things. If you can do it at a corporate retreat, I would think it would be ok to do it with a line.

Yes, but games at a corporate retreat don't require developing secrecy, or discipline, for that matter. Neither do the scavenger hunts that I had fun with when I was a pledge. I now find it ridiculous that these kinds of things are labeled hazing.

It's the secrecy and discipline comments made by the op that I find worrisome. YMMV.

x + 24 + y = 32 - z

Define x, y and z.

OP, do not do anything secret. Everything should be in your new member plans and approved by your chapter, advisers, and any applicable national officers.

Yes, Greek Chatters, I realize this is not NPC. But I strongly doubt any NPHC sorority gives its new member coordinator or the equivalent carte blanche because of the potential for legal liability.

To summarize, OP, please don't do anything stupid that is not previously approved by your higher-ups. Do not do anything "secret." Consult your Greek Adviser for ideas of approved activities.

You can find it as ridiculous as you want, but that doesn't change the fact that it is considered hazing. Also, the games at a corporate retreat are vetted because god forbid someone gets hurt and the corporation gets sued!

No shit. Thank you for your condescension. I'll bear that in mind as I continue my career in risk management.

I am fully capable of intellectualizing the need to ban them while at the same time feeling that it's a shame that innocently intended fun has to be done away with.

Olive branch extended: You didn't express it was a shame. You expressed that it was ridiculous, which would indicate that you don't see the potential for liability. Now you have clarified, I can see that we are on the same page. Yes, it is a shame that a few idiots have ruined what would be otherwise innocent activities.

Good luck with your career in risk management. I have no doubt you'll be extremely successful.

43 possibilities, if we assume they are whole numbers.
