embroidered tye dye shirts

hey everyone! :] i'm thinking about getting some new letters & i really want to do a custom tye dye shirt! i'm curious if anyone has any advice or experience with this.

* i'm mostly wondering if my best option would be to:
1) order a white shirt with my letters on it & tye dye the entire shirt, OR
2) order a white shirt without letters and after i tye dye it have it embroidered at a local greek life store?

i worry that the dye might not take to the letters or just goof up somehow.

any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! :] thanks everyone!

Tie dye the shirt and then have letters put on it. They'll show up better that way.
