HARD or SOFT?

Cookies.

How do you like them?

I went to an event and was eccccsthhatic (Mike Tyson voice) to see cookies. Unfortunately they were the crunchiest cookes ever. What saved them and my taste buds was that the chocolate chunks were soft and moist.

Does the hard or soft preference vary by the type of cookie?

Hard...soft...dry...moist....

...COOKIES.

I am most definitely on Team Soft Cookies.

We had to submit a snack list for our staff retreat, and I specifically requested soft chocolate chip cookies.

Definitely soft...and warm. Lets face it, you can't get better than that "just out of the oven" taste.

Soft.

Even with store bought I always go for the chewy over the crunchy.

If I get hard, Chips Deluxe Rainbow Cookies

If I get soft, Chewy Chips Ahoy

This thread reminds me of the Golden Girls - Cupcake conversation lol

Neither. I'll go with crisp. Cookies should not be hard or soft (blech to both), they should be crispy.

Depends on the cookie.

Gingersnap should be hard.
Pfeffernusse should be soft.
Chocolate chip should be soft.
Oatmeal should be hard.

Crispy is a version of hard.

Ya know what...nevermind...just leave the thread! Leave the thread NOW, I say! You're messing up the data.

ETA: IrishLake, yes, crispy is the less-sexy sibling of hard. No, these are not euphemisms. Why would you say that? Why would eating cookies give you contractions?

iLOL

Team Warm & Soft. Cold and Hard makes me think of dead people and I would rather not associate such things with my deliciousness.

I agree. Cannibalism and necrophilia are disgusting thoughts.

I like room temperature hard Oreos. I guess the only time Oreos should be soft and warm is when they have been in the oven or are fried at the state fair. SWTXBelle is correct that it depends on the cookie. Molasses cookies--the middle between hard and soft. Gingerbread cookies--hard but I'm open to allowing a soft one to tickle my taste buds.

Not the oatmeal cookies I grew up on and make now. They're fairly thin and crisp. They're the best, as far as I'm concerned.

No, crisp would be between hard and soft. When I think of hard cookies, I think of things like overcooked, dry or just plain bad homemade cookies or of many store-bought cookies like original Chips Ahoy. Chips Ahoy could double as hockey pucks.

I would classify as crispy a good shortbread, my aforementioned oatmeal cookies, tea cakes (hey, it's Christmastime, and they're the traditional Christmas cookies of my childhood) or a good gingerbread cookie. I would also include Oreos or Vienna Fingers.

What, you think just because you started this thread, you own it? You are not the boss of me.

Besides, I didn't even bring up how unappealing chocolate chip cookies are.

Shortbread is neither hard nor soft. If it is perfect, it exists in a state of tension between the two - bottom is firmer, but top is buttery soft. It should literally melt in your mouth.

Now I need cookies and the house is currently cookie-free.
