Talking Britney Spears!

I was in one of the other forums and a thread about famous people in your org turned into HatingonBritney thread.

I just don't get it people, why all the hating on Britney Spears? Christina Aguleria, Jessica Simpson, Willa Ford, etc have all bit her style and I hear nothing about them. So why is this one woman singled out?

She has a boyfriend of 3 years, she has talked about waiting until she's married for sex. And all you guys see is her clothes? Why not blast J.Lo for the same thing?

I just don't get it

ok

Ok all those threads were about Britney Lovers(I am also)

But I'm talking to the Non-Britney lovers. She couldn't get a bid because of her clothes? Tell me that you guys aren't that shallow

Talking well

Yeah they do share a house together, but she even admits that they are rarely there at the same time. Plus she said she's gonna quit talking about her virginity, because it became such an issue.

I like her and Justin better than Jessica Simpson and Nick from 98 Degrees. They were always all over each other in public and now look at them, they broke up this year.

I like Britney, although I dont think she is a very good role model for kids...but then again, what pop star really is? I dont care what she wears or if she is a virgin or not (she says she is tired of being celibate)...I do kinda agree that a lot of what she provides is image and not talent (I saw her live once I will however say I cannot stand Mariah Carrey...she just has somewhat of a skanky look now....which I could possible tolerate if she would just sing, instead of moaning and groaning through an entire song.

I can't even look past their image to judge their music, it's so coverred up with clothes, makeup, "issues", boys and fame.

Britney is singled out because she has become a parody of herself. She's like the Spice Girls. All flash, no content. Everyone else came on to ride her glitter painted tube top trails. Therefore, to make fun of Britney, is to make fun of all the little pop princesses.
THANK YOU!! I agree. Maybe I'm getting old, but it's getting to the point now where I can't stand a lot of what gets played on the radio today because it's so terrible (with the exception of hip hop, where the new stuff is great). All that Britney Spears/boy band stuff makes me feel sick, along with the new "alternative" bands that are just as bad, with all their shallow "emoting" and rage-filled anthems for angry 13 year old boys. Please! There are so few bands now (like Radiohead, for example) that actually have talent, something to say, and a new and interesting way to say it. Appearance has nothing to do with musical talent, and certainly doesn't make up for lack of musical talent.

Personally, I would have a hard time taking anyone seriously who wears their panties outside of their jeans (i.e. "Slave" video).

Two possibilities here for this unusual fashion statement:

1. You're stupid and can't dress yourself.

2. You're trying to be sexually forward.

I don't think it's #1, because despite any misgivings I may have about her musical talent, or lack thereof, I wouldn't go so far as to say that she's mentally incompetent. Not likely to be a rocket scientist, but not brain dead either.

Which leaves #2. Showing your bright pink thong underwear in public, much less putting them on top of your little jeans is just a little too much. I can just picture our old chapter advisor (picture little old lady with poofy hair) wagging her finger and talking about "Conduct Unbecoming of an Alpha Xi Delta!"

I dislike her because I think she's a hypocrite. Here she talks about saving yourself, being a good Christian, but she does the stuff she does--very publicly, I might add. Virgin or not, she's sexually repressed and doesn't understand how you can be sexual and discreet at the same time.

I would vote to have her removed from any bid lists because of the image she promotes not just to the campus, but to the nation as a whole. Same reason I wouldn't have voted circa 1993 Madonna for membership.

Plus, I'm not hating on her...I think I have a better body anyway...

Personally, these people are not my favorite artists, but music is a very commercialized industry, unless you follow your local music scene. Artists do what they are told or they never become famous because there are plenty of people that will do what the record companies want. As for Britney and the other pop princesses, they are basically all trying to emulate the pop princess that many of us grew up with, Madonna. Doesn't anyone else see the similarities? They are all seeing how far they can push the envelope just like Madonna. This gets them the press they want, just like Madonna. IMO, all these girls are vying for the title of the new Madonna. I even think that somewhere along the line each of them has declared that Madonna is/was at least one of their greatest influences.

I'll agree - I think Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore are prettier - but in the HBO special, when they had the rain coming down on Britney - she was looking pretty damn good at that point.

What's up with no love for Britney? Sure, she's musically inept and can't sing for s&*t, so what? I place her and most teenyboppers in a similar category - "entertainment" Great fashion, exciting shows, visual appeal. The girl can dance and is flashy, with a great body. Ya know what that does for her? Makes 12 year old girls want to be like her and make 12 year old boys want her. This equivilates to multiplatinum status, because I'll guarantee the majority of her record sales aren't to the 21-30 crowd.

Musical entertainment is great for what it is , entertainment. I do find a difference between Britney and someone like Aguilera who can actually sing but generally, great marketing, great image and a danceable beat will equivalate to sales, not the "message" that she'strying to convey. Ya think the backstreet boys and Nsync are huge because they have a message? Hell no, they are products of the same entertainment formula explained above. But hey, if you dig the music and the show, nothing wrong with that. I personally have little respect for what she does, but I'll say this, Spears does what she does, with her particular audience, EXTREMELY well and I can't fault her for it.
