Scary books you've read or are currently reading
Is anyone reading any scary books? What horror books are you reading or have you read? Today, I went to the bookstore and I bought "Winter Moon" my Dean Koontz. I haven't started reading it yet, but I read a little bit of it while I was in the bookstore. I thought the little bit that I did read was pretty creepy, so I bought it. I also thought it would be fun and scary to post a few scary parts from the books you've either read or books you are currently reading.

Winter Moon is a good one, but I dont consider Koontz to be scary.
The Hot Zone is a scary book, and a non-fiction. It's about the ebola virus, you could appreciate it. But it's a nerdy scary book.
And eff me, but I can't remember the name of the scariest book I've ever read. It's set in Ireland, about a killer who butcher the limbs of his victims while they're still alive, and keep them alive while their arms and legs are stripped to the bones... it nearly made me physically ill.

This will be the first book I'll be reading by him. It will also be the third horror book I've read. I read Misery by Stephen King, and there was another book by Stephen King that I read, but I can't remember the name of it. It was like a lot of short stories in one.

Just read Body Double and The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen. She's my go-to thriller author, and her books are just the right amout of creepy.

'Salem's Lot is the first really scary book I ever read, back in HS. Parts of The Stand, as well (like the bit in the tunnel at the beginning).

I just checked Amazon.com and it's still in available: Let's Go Play at the Adams' by Mendal W. Johnson.
Not only is it the scariest book I've ever read, but it even has a Greek tie-in. Here's one of the reviews:
"I read this book along with a few classmates when I was in 9th grade (many years ago) and it still haunts me today. It was one of the most horrifying books I have ever read and still is. I can't say I recommend it because honestly, I don't remember whether it was well-written or not. But if you've ever thought of being a nanny you might not want to read this."
IMHO, it's whatever you want to label horror mind candy. One of James Patterson's scared the spit out of me, too, but I've put the title out of my mind. *shudder*

The Michigan Murders, which was a book about a real serial killer, John Norman Collins, from the late 60s (who was a member of a fraternity at Eastern Michigan University) who killed and raped many women in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. I read it in high school when I didn't know the area at all. I read it AGAIN after going to EMU and knowing the places/houses/etc where the killings actually occurred... really really creepy. One of the houses was right next door to the one where I lived for two years!
