How much time and commitment does a sorority take? and do you usually still keep your old friends that are not going greek?

No, you have to donate your old friends to the Salvation Army.
Seriously, though, there are a bunch of threads discussing the time commitments for Greek organizations. Take some time to browse the forums.
Good luck.

Whether you keep your old friends is up to you. There is no reason you can't. The only time most women have to stop talking to their non-Greek friends due to time or other restrictions is before/during recruitment. And that's short term and all about learning to take a break for yourself while managing your time.

I know that GCers are generous, but GC really doesn't need to entertain such questions. That's why people keep coming here with the silliest of questions.

It depends on how much you want to get out of it. Most chapters will require at least one meeting a week (chapter), and possibly more during the new member period. My chapter had about three required events a month, and many more that were optional. It's all about time management, and college is a good time to learn that, before the real world.
Whether you keep your non greek friends is totally up to you. That is a personal choice. And it's all about time management, too.

People ask silly questions on places where they don't entertain them too. There's no containing the internet.

You suggested that if we stopped answering these questions, they'd stop being asked. I'm saying that it's incredibly unlikely. Many sites that don't entertain these questions still get them.
Also I personally don't mind answering honest questions, no matter how naive or silly they are. Teenagers in particular can be naive and silly at times, it just comes with the territory.
