If you have no desire for commitment, check in here
I just got home from a fun dinner w/ friends until this came up, TALKS ABOUT CHILDREN AND MARRIAGE! I left shortly after that. Damn, we're only 22 and 23. One even said she wants to be married and have children by this time next year. Everyone agreed w/ her, except for me. I don't want to have any serious commitment until my late 20's or early 30's. I feel lonely that I think this way. So, if you feel the same way that I do, please post.

While I am still single, so marriage isn't an option for me right now. I am in NO WAY ready for that kind of commitment. Even when I ponder the thought it freaks me out. I'm having way too much fun and I don't want that kind of responsibility right now.

GOOD FOR YOU GUYS!!!!
God, how refreshing to read. Marrying in your late 20's has proven to be FAR FAR more successful than those in your early 20's. Of course, I never believed this when I was younger, but you grow and change SO much in your 20's. If you marry in your early 20's you may end up with a total mismatch by the time you hit 30, 35 years old.
If I had married the guy I was in love with at 22, I would definitely be divorced now. Instead, I came to see the total and complete asshole that he turned into. Instead, I married a far different man at 28. We just celebrated our 16th anniversary
You are making a smart decision that will positively affect the rest of your lives.

I think it's the entire Great Plains region that's like this. In my state, it's considered abnormal for me to be 24, have been in a relationship for 3 years and not proposed or something.
It's just that Bible Belt thinkin'. Hate to be prejudiced, but the trend seems especially prevelant among people from rural towns.

That was strange...I typed and nothing happened...
Anyway, I know quite a few people that will dump a guy after 3 years if there is no ring. However, I know more than a few people who found out their man was a total freak after 4 or 5 years, so not getting married saved them all that grief!
I think it just depends on where you are in your life and how mature you are. I mean, there are people who are 23 going on 30 and there are people who are 30 going on 21 Nobody should ever say "Okay, I am 25 now so I have to marry the guy I am with now because it is just TIME to get married." Big mistake!

True. Here you're abnormal if you aren't divorced with a kid by the time you're 25.
So, count me as abnormal. I plan on being that way for awhile. I've also loved seeing the domino effect of engagements of my friends. The girls get jealous and it's "put a ring on my finger or we're done" type crap.
As my dad always says...Marriage is a great institution, but so is the state hospital.

That's awful. No wonder guys think women are freaks -- but we're not all like that, I promise!
