My friend's recruitment conclusion!!
I am going to be writing my friend's long recruitment story. Why? Because I want to and it will be fun and she gave me permission! I think details are fine because she's already figured her stuff out. Here we go.
In fall 2007, she was a freshman at the University of Denver and wanted to join a sorority so badly! She thought it would be so much fun and the perfect way to start college, so she signed up for rush!
The sororities on campus at the time were:
Alpha Gamma Delta
Delta Gamma
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Zeta
Gamma Phi Beta
She didn't get recomendations, because they are not crucial at this school, and honestly she didn't know to.
Her impressions going into rush:
Vegas - she didn't have a strong feeling one way or the other
Miami - hadn't heard of them before rush
LA - this group was small. the other 4 chapters had over 100 members each. this group had 8. she really wasn't interested
Tahiti - she went into recruitment obsessed with this group. they were considered the best
Paris - hadn't heard of them going in, but once her first visit, she regarded them on the same level as tahiti
DAY 1:
Vegas - the girls were very easy to talk to and she thought the house was nice.
Miami - the girls were a bit enthusiastic. she didn't love the house. she preferred vegas to miami, but was a bit ambivalent about both
LA - she said the girls were nice but was not giving them a chance. she felt they were too small and might even close soon
Tahiti - she seemed more excited than the sisters. she really liked the house and thought the girls were nice. she really wants to go back here
Paris- she LOVED them. and she LOVED the house. she really wants to go back here
DAY 2 was an exact repeat of day 1, and she said her opinions stayed the same. at the end of the day she ranked
1 Vegas
1 Miami
1 Tahiti
1 Paris
2 LA

For day 3, she got back 3/3 invitations!
Vegas
Miami
Tahiti
She was relieved she didn't have to go back to LA but was so upset she cried over Paris. She loved them and so did all the PNMS!
Miami - she really didn't like the house. she said the girls were just ok
Tahiti - fell in love. obsessed. she said she was very sweet to everyone
Vegas - still ambivalent. some things she really likes, and some things concern her
The next day was preference and there was a maximum of 2 houses you could go to.
She ranked
1 Tahiti
1 Vegas
2 Miami

She was nervous when she went to get her invites for pref. She wanted to pref Tahiti so badly!
She looked at her list and it said...
Miami
That was it. Was this a mistake? Libby was crushed. Her Rho gamma convinced her to go to the pref party though. She thought the girls were nice but really wasn't interested in giving them a chance. She figured LA would be off campus soon and Miami would then be rejects and she didn't want that rep. After the pref party she didn't sign a bid card and dropped out of recruitment, and decided to try formal again in the fall of her sophmore year.
Her impressions going into recruitment sophmore year:
Tahiti - still loved, but there was a girl in this house who didn't like her so she assumed she would be blackballed
Paris - she spent all freshman year making friends with these girls and she hung out with them every weekend! she was definitely rushing for Paris
Vegas - nothing good/nothing bad. solid house she said
Miami - felt awkward having to go back to them
DAY 1
Vegas - All the same. Very nice girls. She felt comfortable. Nothing overly amazing or overly horrid
Tahiti - she was really nice to these girls and still viewed them as a chapter she wanted to be in
Miami - she felt awkward because the girl asked her if she was considering Miami. she wasn't
Paris - loved it. she said that the girls said to her "we were so glad to see you!" this is her house
DAY 2
same
DAY 3
the dreaded phone call - she had been dropped from recruitment because she did not receive any invites
THIS STORY IS NOWHERE NEAR OVER AND THERE IS A GLO IN THE FUTURE!

I forgot to mention (but you might have realized) that LA lost their charter after her freshman year.

She figured she would never be in a sorority and she couldn't deal with that so she transferred (honestly). She didn't like her new school ( a small 1500 all girl school) so she transferred back and found out they were bringing a new sorority to campus! She rushed and out of 100 girls rushing, they picked 90 for Alpha Phi! and she is currently pledging. They are bringing LA back next year too

So her words: She is a junior now and is going abroad next year so she won't be able to spend much time in A Phi, but she is happy she will have the sorority connections post-grad. She still would have rather been in Tahiti or Paris but whatever. Since A Phi is new they don't have a rep yet and she is ok with that over a bad rep. She's trying to meet more of the fraternity boys now!

When I started the thread, I looked up U Denver and had a feeling this story was going to end in Alpha Phi. I pledged a colony as a junior too. I hope she has a great time

I thought that was gonna happen, too! Btw, one of my fave Kappas only joined her SENIOR year when we were a colony, and she is an active alumna member.
Congrats to your friend!

8 members? Wow. They must have had to, like, quintuple-rush PNMs. At least. I'm definitely a cheerleader for giving small groups a fair chance during recruitment, but at this point... wow. So sad.
